Wood has won several illustration awards, but the ability to illustrate a story is not necessarily related to the ability to tell a story in pictures. This gave us a little pause, but the novelty of going inside a volcano was simply too great for us to pass up on, so we booked it without further hesitation.

Announced as a Rebel Route in May 2019, Spiral Into the Volcano was created because we were looking for a longer, flat route with a spicy finish. It seems their Aunt Lulu has been longing for a visit from her nephews and Duffy, for one, is thrilled. It has character and adventure and enough complications to keep the mystery going, successfully building suspense and fogging up imagined outcomes. There is no doubt that Thrihnukagigur and its surrounding area of the Blue Mountains is a masterpiece of nature. The action moves along at breakneck speed, and through all of the twists and turns, the reader is left wondering if the boys will survive.Everyone that goes down into the crater will have a harness and required to use a helmet at all times. Driving across the stark, black ash plains is certainly an eerie and exhilarating experience, as is “volcano boarding” down the slopes.

Vivi and Seb’s journey is nothing less than death defying but they are driven by a unified desire to heal the tragedy that has fallen upon them both.

Go dugong-spotting from the sky and put the heli down on a deserted beach to jump in and snorkel alongside. Known by a few and experienced by even fewer, this volcano is so beautiful that you wouldn’t almost believe it to be capable of being such a powerfully destructive force. Many seem very excited by the artwork in Into the Volcano, how each image has been carefully crafted (as opposed to the mass market comic, they say).
