About this deal

Not much of how she felt towards her sister changed until the very end, and it was upsetting to see this because a change before would have shown her strong character development. I did have some problems with the book, the first being that the final half of the book felt unfinished, and the story felt quite inconsistent. If there is one thing I know to be true, it’s that everything worth having in my life is worth fighting for. New and familiar characters abound, voiced by a bright mix of performers, including Kat Dennings, Regé-Jean Page, Emma Corrin, Michael Sheen, Kristen Schaal, Brian Cox, John Lithgow, Jeffrey Wright, and so many more, including fan-favorite narrators Simon Vance and Ray Porter.

this has two things i love when setting up a romance story - characters who have known each other since childhood and a good ol’ enemies to lovers plot. She loved cooking and wanted to pursue a career with it, and her passion for it was clear and vivid in her descriptions of the food and how she visualizes food. He seemed so self-confident, so larger-than-life on the outside that no one bothered to look what's behind the facade. And now I am left hoping that there may be more stories to be told in this world because I am all in! to be honest, i don't even know if these two were even intimate when they were dating in high school because there were barely any details but it was inferred they were more friends or partners in crime.River was an asshole, a complete jerk, but he never bullied Carrie, and it was one reason I loved the character development of River. For complicated reasons that even they know don’t really make sense, Delilah and Macon choose to be forced into proximity with one another. Even as I found myself unable to put the book down, I was also deeply uncomfortable with the real life implications of a romance between these people with terrible boundaries.

Despite what Macon said about them not truly liking each other, they were partners in crime for their entire childhoods. I could relate to Delilah and the sense of feeling less than, both in comparison to her sister and in the eyes of others. Safety: This one should be either Safe or Safe with exception for most safety gang readers depending on personal preferences. Now it's 10 years later and they see each other again when Delilah's sister, Samantha, has stolen something from him. i just needed to see more of the enemies to lovers but the "enemies" part here seemed too light and it was just foreplay. And happiness aside, I understood some of Delilah's reasoning for wanting to take care of her sister's problem because of her mother. Sam’s character was one I thought would be redeemable with the possibility or her having her own book, but like other plots running through the novel I felt she/it became a villain/device rather than being cohesive in the story building.

This was likely a case of “It’s not you, it’s me” as I was interested enough in wanting to see Delilah and Macron’s HEA, but I can’t say I was reverted in way that I normally am with Kristen’s novels. However, I have heard a few raves from other advance reviewers, and I was intrigued by this premise, even if enemies-to-lovers is hard to do well. It wasn't until the story ended that I had enough of her character and grew very annoyed, especially when Sam came back and saw Delilah and Macon together. When Billy can’t find the informant, he wonders if Kate is secretly harboring her, since the two grew close during Kate's weeks undercover. It unfolded very quickly and I had to tell my mind to settle down and go with the flow when it kept wanting to raise an eyebrow over how things were playing out.In my opinion, the slow burn was a bit too long and I found myself disconnecting a bit from the story sometimes. Delilah Baker and Macon Saint, adversaries since childhood, have been forced back into each other’s orbit after a ten year gap. Her behavior wasn't acceptable, and I don't think that the situation was handy correctly when she finally was confronted. We react to each other like the vinegar-and-baking-soda experiments we used to do in science class as kids.

Macon doesn’t fully understand the damage he has done to Delilah, but he does own his actions and apologize for them, while also giving her an understanding of why he was such a shit to her. That said, as the novel progresses you begin to see Macon’s side of the story, and feel for him too.
