When I was a child, my world was one road long: the tree-lined drive up to the house where we lived.

Our new wallpaper Nettle is inspired by a 16th century botanical print of the humble nettle weed, which we have re-imagined and drawn as a grand, scrolling pattern in a larger scale than our Nettle fabric. I had to get this book from Kansas City using our amazing interlibrary loan system because I read about it and was intrigued by the title. The most recent thing I bought for my home were some mid-19th century needlepoint cushions from an auction house in Sweden. Swedish-born, London-based interior designer Beata Heuman founded her eponymous studio in 2013 after working for Nicky Haslam for nine years.Heuman set up her interior design studio in London in 2013, since when her easy-going, liveable, relaxed style has won her plaudits and commissions around the world.

I painted the picture behind the armchair myself, which was an attempt at a Charles Baskerville that I had seen in an Elsie de Wolfe interior.Like most Swedes she holds Ikea close to her heart – “eating meatballs in the café was a treat at weekends” – and many of her projects features its pieces, such as a white vanity unit that she recently installed in a bathroom and upgraded with a pair of brass door knobs, or a set of black woven chairs, made unique with bespoke seat pads. In another sense, they scream Heuman so much that I personally wouldn't hire her because I would want my rooms to scream "me.
