It was absolutely cringy, but I’m assuming if you’re into mafia books like this then you probably don’t care. The chemistry here is very much physical- a lot of instalust, and from Beauty’s unexpected kindness to him. How does Aurora play the piano (“professionally” was used to describe her piano prowess) when her hands are as messed up as they’re described to be. I read a lot of dark books and Clarissa Wild is one of my favorites at writing the dark stories I love so much. She also knowingly manipulated him and his feelings for her (for protection, I understand), but did that instead of simply acknowledging that she was attracted to him.

Beast is used as a tool to hunt down and kill whomever his boss deems necessary and on his latest hit he encounters Aurora aka Beauty who he takes back to his boss, was it a smart move? There’s a red mark from her fall when the guard pushed her, and the mere sight of this blemish on my pretty toy makes me want to rip off his limbs and eat them while he watches. Her other loves include her hilarious husband, her two crazy but cute dogs, and her ninja cat that sometimes thinks he’s a dog too.

I’m sure she ends up “learning to love herself” or another form of inspirational bullshit, but why have something like that used negatively in the first place?

I highly recommend this book to those that enjoy Steamy Dark Retelling's or Organized Crime Romances. Nothing is quiet as exciting to her as reading a good book and then talking about it or making comments while reading with her friends that have read the book too. And for a single second, her tongue darts out to wet her lips, only to disappear the next second, as if nothing ever happened. Dark captivity, a primal hero and innocent heroine with a secret, forced proximity, and so much danger- it’s quite an experience! And to have the main character publicly ridiculed and shamed for her appearance, multiple times, was disgusting.Well written story that I really enjoyed reading but that cliffhanger, oh my goodness I need the next book now! And who was she to judge Beast when she herself acknowledged that he was as much a prisoner as she was?

I think the narration voice should have been more consistent with the education level of the characters.

There is a particularly salacious scene (following when we find out one of Aurora’s secrets) that was extra delicious.It’s supposed to be based on beauty and the beast I guess but other than the names there’s no other sign of that story here. We get a little bit of emotional bonding, but much of the story is them figuring out their situation- and it leads up to quite a big cliffhanger. The door at the top of the stairs is closed, and what light remains filters through a tiny hole underneath the door, barely enough to illuminate even a speck of dust. Here we jump RIGHT into the action with Beast on a mission that puts him in the path of his beauty- and he decides to keep her. The heroine is just plain stupid and comes out with the silliest of things, completely unbelievable storyline.
