About this deal

And when it comes to the Angel Maker, this is one book that, despite a need for some work, truly has those same sort of unique, sturdy, AND good bones. For over and above the clockwork bees, the automaton monks, the mad scientist, the Fu Manchu supervillain and the black-market army, Angelmaker turns out to be a very timely novel about belatedness.

Certain parts of this story are very creepy like making the hairs on the back of your neck stand up type of creepy(which I loved). That being said, if you enjoyed his previous works such as the The Whisper Man you probably will at the very least enjoy it. Parent/child relationships are important, particularly when parents display a clear preference for one child over another. Angelmaker is like a Quentin Tarantino movie written by Neil Gaiman: larger-than-life characters, dry British humor, a heavy dose of the weird, and a bit macabre; horrendous things wrapped up in gorgeous language. I still feel that with some retooling, the story could have played out as clearly for the reader as it did in North's mind, because it IS evident he thought this one through.I want to thank the publisher "Celedon Books" and Net galley for the opportunity to read this novel and any thoughts or opinions expressed are unbiased and mine alone! The thing I enjoyed the most about the characters was the relationship between them and how it developed (Mother-daughter and siblings especially).

The characterisation is very good, you witness the changes in Chris, the bravery of Katie, the intelligence of Page and two who personify good versus evil. I enjoy the author’s flirtation of supernatural elements in his previous mystery books, but the use of the supernatural was too blatant in this one for me. He also does some interesting things with sexuality, which rather bothered me at first, until I realized he seemed to be turning Edie into a caricature of James Bond. speed the narration seemed like regular speed to me, so you might need to increase the speed to keep your interest. The intricate weaving of the threads was done with the hands of a master in the genre and it is with pleasure that I tell you that North wrapped this up brilliantly which couldn't have been easy.in the end, I went with an idea that has haunted me more than a little for many years now, and which engages with a number of the themes that have always interested me.

Firstly I would like to thank netgalley, and Penguin Random House, and the Author Alex North for an early copy of this book.I would highly recommend everyone reads this book because it's one of the most entertaining and imaginative books I have read this year, that will keep you guessing until the end! A distinguished professor of fate and free will has been brutally murdered just hours after firing his staff. Can the detective work through this complicated jigsaw before the grisly events of the past repeat themselves? It felt like Alex North tried to do too much with story and it backfired and wasn't as engaging as his other books since the story bogged it down. Thus, when I heard about this book, North's most recent release, The Angel Maker, I was over the moon with anticipation.

It’s clear to see the novel’s influences, but this is something new, something different and completely unexpected.

it became increasingly difficult as time wore on to know what year we were in, who was narrating, or what was even going on. It takes a similar form: the two time streams, one present day (or as near as damn it), the other Edie’s story of her time as a much younger woman working for Science 2.
