About this deal

Agent 9 is impulsive and rather disaster-prone, with a tendency to blow things up and forget vital pieces of equipment. It's interesting that Agent 9 isn't assigned a gender, so keeping the appeal open to boys and girls. Agent 9 bolts, bounds, and —more often —explodes through every hilarious page in this welcome new addition to the spy genre. But when bumbling supervillain King Crab manages to overtake S4 headquarters, there is no one else to turn to. is a funny, action-packed graphic novel that will appeal to fans of the Dog Man and Bunny vs Monkey series.

If there is a sequel on the way, I would love to see more characters work alongside Agent 9, but the cast that we do get satisfies well enough to make for an enjoyable secret agent mission. Don't hate me for thinking the thing is a male, though – it's certainly going to be over-thinking the whole book to discuss it much anyway. The serious ecological message of melting ice caps is nicely conveyed amidst the madcap adventure and James Bond-style gadget action.

Agent 9's adventures zing along at breakneck speed, peppered with great one-liners and fish-flavoured snacks. The fact I saw it when it was over two years old and we've only had one sequel suggests the franchise didn't really take off, which was a surprise – there may be hundreds of books like this out there, but this was a friendly and enjoyable one, and for once not something so daft and gaudy people over a certain age were excluded. Agent 9 has to learn to breathe and pause before acting here… because she destroys a lot and makes her job harder. The only thing standing in his way is Agent 9 as well as her robotic assistant FiN who will try to put an end to Crab’s plans before he can initiate Flood-A-Geddon.

But when bumbling supervillain King Crab manages to overtake S4 head quarters, there is no one else to turn to. Before a mission is found, however, Agent 9 finds themself and robotic fish eye sidekick FIN (the long-suffering voice of reason and probable real brains of the duo) remaining the only Agent that now stands between the super evil King Crab and his dastardly plan to flood the world to build a worldwide water park. But when bumbling supervillain King Crab manages to overtake S4 headA-quarters, there is no one else to turn to. I'm looking forward to seeing further Agent 9 adventures; at a time when interest in graphic novels is rising, this series should find lots of new fans. Oh, and most reviews have the lead as a female, because yes there is no gender in this, although I can't help but feel some got confused about the word 'feline'.There was just the right amount of choice to suit everyone without being overwhelming and I received comments from parents and staff about the quality of books offered compared to previous sales which have always been based around current crazes and well known celebrity authors. It seems that whenever there’s an obstacle, they’ll knock it down, even if they’ve not tested it through first! James is also a published author who has written and illustrated numerous books for kids, including his long-running seven-book graphic novel series Bird and Squirrel, published by Scholastic/Graphix, which has been translated into Czech, Spanish, French, Castilian, Chinese, and even Farsi (the pirated edition in Iran).
