About this deal

I wanted to see black girls treated with the same sweetness as classic characters like that inspire me! This fascinating picture book presents a selection of true stories about incredible people who have challenged injustice and worked together to make the world a better place. I don't have official word on all of this and may need to defer to my publisher and agent for a lot of things, but here I've answered some of the most frequent questions I get about Little Leaders!

I unfortunately cannot have any books shipped to me to be signed, so definitely keep an eye out for my local events! The appeal is very much that of [ Goodnight Stories for] Rebel Girls or Frances Lincoln's Little People, Big Dreams series, but this is the only such collection to focus exclusively on black women.Debut author/illustrator Vashti Harrison pairs captivating text with stunning illustrations as she tells the stories of both iconic and lesser-known female figures of black history - from nurse Mary Seacole, to politician Diane Abbott, mathematician Katherine Johnson and singer Shirley Bassey.

Featuring 40 trailblazing black women in the world's history, this book educates and inspires as it relates true stories of women who broke boundaries and exceeded all expectations. She then went on to receive her MFA in Film and Video from CalArts where she snuck into Animation classes to learn from Disney and Dreamworks legends. Dieses Buch erzählt jeweils auf einer Seite von berühmten schwarzen* Frauen und was sie in ihrem Leben gemacht haben. This is my debut book, so I'm definitely new to the world of publishing and may not be able to provide all of the answers.Backgrounds are minimal, rendered mostly in pale shades, which leaves the focus on the women and helps ground them in history. Part author - illustrator - filmmaker, Vashti Harrison is an artist originally from Onley, Virginia. Featuring 40 trailblazing black women in the world’s history, this book educates and inspires as it relates true stories of women who broke boundaries and exceeded all expectations.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. He's a little young to understand some of the more complex words , but it's certainly one that will be referred back to over the next few years. It harkens back to classic children's illustrations done by Mary Blair or Mr Happy by Roger Hargreaves. Among these biographies, readers will find heroes, role models and everyday women who did extraordinary things. The charming, information-filled full-color spreads show the Leaders as both accessible and aspirational so reader knows they, too, can grow up to do something amazing.

This fascinating non-fiction picture book explores the life of an inspirational woman who overcame race and gender barriers to become an internationally acclaimed scientist. Whether it's International Women's Day or not, it's always worth pointing out and celebrating the – often forgotten or undervalued – achievements of women, both past and present.

She earned her BA from the University of Virginia as a double major in Media Studies and Studio Art with concentrations in Film and Cinematography. Additionally, since I saw them as children dressing up as famous women, I wanted the page to feel like they're playing pretend. It’s excellent that children can get an introduction to lesser-known African American women such as abolitionist Mary Prince and sculptor Augusta Savage, alongside the better-known Rosa Parks and Sojourner Truth. Perfect for enquiring young minds, these engaging non-fiction books approach subjects from biography to nature and science to history in a variety of interesting ways.
