About this deal

I would recommend this book to anyone who is experiencing infertility as it will remind you that you are not alone in your feelings, even on those darker days. All the experiences are so well written and I’ve found this to be a very therapeutic and uplifting book as I too parent plus. So here I would like to recommend this book no matter if you have children or not, or if you are having trouble falling pregnant you may find some suggestions in Lisa's book Meant to Be. I do believe you are given what you need, although it might not be what you think you want at that time.

Lisa's first book was published in 2012 and was a Sunday Times bestseller, and she has subsequently written 3 other cookery books. But, in the months and years that followed, she discovered that there was more than one way to build a family - and that there is a lot of joy to be found in life's unexpected detours. Angela had given me a brand-new changing bag that she had been given (and hadn’t used) and I was scared that they would think that I hadn’t listened to anything they had said about being very low-key and keeping everything the same. Over two years, my then-partner Chris and I went from trying to get pregnant naturally to having our fertility tested (everything looked normal) and going through IVF three times. This book is about Lisa’s quest to be a mum and pretty much reflects my personal experience too ( just the surrogacy consideration was different). She was always chatting, using a language that she had made up, mixed with a few real words and sounds, always pointing to things and asking what they were. Highly recommend to anyone experiencing fertility problems, baby loss, grief or people who plan to adopt a child. She went through IVF three times with her former partner, suffered an ectopic pregnancy, investigated surrogacy and then decided to adopt after finding out she was infertile. It was emotional and complicated and delicate for every single person involved and we were all just trying to do our best for this wonderful little girl. Life can be unexpected; my plan was to be in a happy marriage with a biological child, and look how that turned out. Nobody batted an eyelid; there was too much paperwork to get through and too many questions to be answered concerning Billie’s wellbeing. When the doctor told me this, I had no idea they wouldn’t be able to move the baby to where it was meant to be, that I’d need surgery to have my tube removed. But, in the months and years that followed, she discovered that there was more than one way to build a family – and that there is a lot of joy to be found in life’s unexpected detours. The journey Lisa and Chris, her husband at the time, take through this book is a bittersweet story of the ups and downs of trying for a baby and it not going the way others take for granted. Meant to Be: My Journey to Motherhood by Lisa Faulkner is out now in hardback and in paperback on 5th March. I found myself drawn to it all given that I can relate to the very early stages of Lisa’s desire to want a baby.

Having experienced infertility before going on to have my own children, I felt a strong bond with Lisa and hope that others will be able to take comfort from her story. An easy listen with a lot of relatable content, but lacked the depth of was looking for in the topic of adoption.this was a well written heart warming story, proving families come in all shapes and sizes no matter how they became to be. When Lisa Faulkner learned that she wouldn’t have biological children, her plans and expectations for her life were derailed.

From the moment I heard Lisa talking to Chris Evans on Virgin Radio, I knew I needed to read this book. While the assessments were being carried out by the courts, as well as giving Billie her everyday care, we would be taking her for regular contact visits with her birth mother and monthly ‘looked-after child reviews’ with social services, not to mention being on the receiving end of home visits from social workers and district nurses. There were certain precautions that we needed to take to ensure we didn’t all get too attached and because at this point we were officially foster carers.
