About this deal

Tracing her life from a happy childhood in Hungary to the harrowing losses experienced in Auschwitz, Lily Ebert’s memoir is a heart-breaking and unforgettable reminder of both the importance of remembering the Holocaust and the incredible power of hope. The Holocaust as everybody knows was inhumane and pure evil but I still find that some things shock me to my core, to believe that any one human could do that to another human is a bitter pill to swallow and so unimaginable that it hurts to think about. Decades later, Dov took to social media to track down this man’s family, and as a result, Lily’s story was everywhere (as it should be). It’s emotional, it’s narrated in a way it makes the reader feel like we’re next to Lily having a conversation and listening to her experiences.

And when her great-grandson, Dov, decided to use social media to track down the family of the GI, 96-year-old Lily found herself making headlines round the world. After some four months in Auschwitz, the group were moved to a munitions factory attached to Buchenwald where the treatment was a little better as the Holocaust had destroyed so many lives of slave workers that even the Nazis realised they had to keep their workers alive to keep their flagging war machine going. For people who read an Holocaust Survivor story for the first time, i hope it will give you the will to read other story like hers, they did go through almost the same thing but they don't remember it the same way and most of all, they don't describe it the same way. I had a Jewish friend tell me that she has a hard time talking about the Holocaust with her children. When Holocaust survivor Lily Ebert was liberated in 1945, a Jewish-American soldier gave her a banknote on which he’d written ‘Good luck and happiness’.

I recommend this book to every one who want to learn more about what happen to those few who did survive, if you have a twitter account, be sure to leave a comment to her Great GrandSon Dov Forman, it's the best way for Lily to hear from those who did read her books. O facto de que as pessoas moldam as suas verdades, de modo a não se magoarem tanto e/ou de não causarem tanta dor em quem ouve.

Especially reading that a lot of the time, a lot of the people enslaved became jealous of those who had died. Dov, equally committed to sharing Lily’s story, is leading the way as a role-model for young people across the world for Holocaust education and remembrance.Lily lost so much, but she built a new life for herself and her family, first in Israel and then in London. Isso é tão triste, o mundo recusar-se a escutar o que os sobreviventes tinham para contar, porque era demasiado difícil, porque sentiam culpa, porque era mais simples fingir que não aconteceu. The harsh reality of the camps should never disappear from our hearts and minds for fear that racial hatred could strike our lives at any time. The accuracy of dates and facts in her book about her time in the Nazi Concentration and Extermination Camp of Auschwitz-Birkenau contributes to the chorus of voices thanks to which we can get closer to the human experience in a world of utter dehumanisation.

From there she and her sisters became slave labour in a munitions factory, and then faced a death march that they barely survived. Couldn't put this down, well written, you must have had so many emotions and difficulty finding the right words but was done splendidly. The book, which she co-wrote with her great-grandson, Dov Forman, is permeated by a sense of hope that Lily retains in both her educational work and daily life. This is different to many of the books I have read, split between life during the war and lily's struggles within Auschwitz through to her time afterwards and up to the current day. Neďaleko sa týčil vysoký komín, z ktorého sa zúrivo dymilo a občas z neho vyleteli jasné červené plamene. Having read this book I am struck by two things; Lily Ebert is a remarkable woman and her great grandson, Dov Forman, is also a very remarkable young man. The beauty and optimism of Lily’s words are a light in a world that needs to hear her story now more than ever. Your Grandson is a wonderful person who deserves the highest praise for encouraging and supporting you to tell your story and then find so many answers for you.
