About this deal

While her three sons spend the summer holiday with their father, Kate has an opportunity to prove to herself that there is a new life, after her divorce. As all fans of Abby know, we can count on her books for A+ banter and comedic relief and JFTS absolutely delivers in this regard. Abby Jimenez is a Food Network winner, New York Times best selling author, and recipient of the 2022 Minnesota Book Award for her novel Life's Too Short. For some reason, the writing was giving me the cringiest vibes since the beginning and I couldn't look past that. Yes, the stress of his family situation was downplayed big time, but at least it was something different than the "my mom died when I was young" backstory that we usually see for MMCs.

Everything was so insta-lovy, mixed with miscommunication and a very insufferable FMC and it ruined the entire story for me. I think Abby may have outdone herself with this one - while I have loved everything she has written, her last three books have each blown me away and each one has gotten better than the last. I have more to say, but they’re spoilers so I’ll just say this: I didn’t think it was possible to love her leading men (or women) any more than I already did, but this one made me love them all again tenfold. Traveling nurse Emma spots the reddit thread and finds it instantly relatable, because she experiences the same curse. A rich, rebellious boy spends the summer with his father who he has considered long dead and his mistress while waiting for the annulment of his father and his mother's marriage. And as genuine attraction begins to grow between Emma and Justin, the end of her assignment in Minnesota looms large.

Emma and Justin's relationship is one that felt so natural and while both are dealing with family problems as well as personal mental health issues, the pure positivity, love and strength both give each was so beautiful. Fans of Abby Jimenez will be thrilled with "Just for the Summer," a punchy and heart-warming romance that delivers enough of an emotional edge to feel real.

The way that this book and story felt so real, yet navigated difficult and heart wrenching topics was so beautifully done. I wanted to love "Just for the summer" as much as I love her previous works but it didn't hit the mark for me.
