About this deal

This saga is the first in what is to be at least a three-book set (quite possibly more) entitled the Clifton Chronicles, centered around the character Harry Clifton. However, it does have what almost every book of Archer seems to have nowadays: a business angle, a politics angle, and an artist angle. I could see that Mama was embarrassed by his behaviour, although she poured another cup of tea and pretended not to notice. Even my old school of Merrywood was featured and as we lived in the district of Bedminster, Harry’s home in Stillhouse Lane really rang a bell with me. The beautiful part of this was that the overlapping parts focused on the things that THAT character found important or were relevant to that character.

Well I am definitely not gonna read the rest of the six books because I don't care about Harry Clifton anymore. But when the front door closed I stood by the drawing-room window and watched as the car disappeared down the driveway and out of sight. The man Harry believes to be his father was a war hero, but it will be 21 years before Harry discovers how he died, and if he was indeed his father. Jeffrey is published in 114 countries and more than 47 languages, with more than 750,000 5* reviews with international sales passing 275 million copies.

The writing itself is concise and to the point and without too much of a descriptive slant, but it’s a clever structure and the likeable characters combined with steadily building tension, kept me turning the pages. He is the only author ever to have been a number one bestseller in fiction (nineteen times), short stories (four times) and non-fiction (The Prison Diaries). Jeffrey Archer is one of the world’s bestselling authors, with sales of over 275 million copies in 97 countries, and is the only author ever to have been a number one bestseller in fiction (twenty times), short stories (four times) and non-fiction (The Prison Diaries). This is a fairly long book which I nevertheless read straight through on a 5 hour train ride and then two more hours in bed. It may sound strange, but: Archer's novels are not quite thriller, not quite family drama and not quite history novel, and yet, it's ALL of it!
