About this deal

One subject I found strange was the natural c-section… where you can ask to dim the lights etc… I’d like my surgeon to see what he/she is doing thank you very much! Don't get fooled by the title of the book "hypnobirthing", it really doesn't have anything to do with hypnosis. Just as I would telling them to speak to my other half and not talk to me, who would surely just pass on what they're asking or saying anyway?

Essentially, it's a form of antenatal education, an approach to birth that is both evidence-based and logical.

As this is my first pregnancy I had really high hopes for this book to educate me and reassure me of the empowering experience of labour. The tone and some of content felt a bit patronising - I never want to heat the BRAIN acronym ever again. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. I absolutely sped through the book and really found learning about the actual hormonal process of labour and birth and how I can affect that incredibly helpful. HYPNOBIRTHING will change your mindset towards birth, so that you'll be able navigate your birth - and any twists and turns - with confidence, armed with practical tools that ensure you feel calm and in control throughout. Maybe that can be true for some people, but for the vast majority of women, even those with positive birth experiences, that simply isn't accurate.Conversely, positive feelings can encourage relaxation, which reduces tension, which reduces pain, which reduces fear. I never thought I'd be able to labour and give birth without any pain relief, but I did thanks to what I learned in the book and using breathing techniques with the help of the Freya app. Leaning more into the Hypno part of Hypnobirthing where a lot of the other resources I've read or classes have tried to distance themselves from things like scripts for relaxation; the general parts, talking about using your BRAIN as an acronym for Benefits, Risks, Alternatives, Instinct rather than just taking the first option that comes to you is one of many structures that the author has formalised in her own way and is generally good advice.

Throughout my pregnancy, I've been trying to read several books that will prepare me for what's to come. Reading the title, I thought this would be about hypnosis, but it's actually about breaking a cycle of fear and trying to create an environment where the mum-to-be can relax and allow her body to work its natural magic. However, as someone with a long-term medical condition who requires giving birth in a hospital and to be induced before 40 weeks, I instead was left feeling incredibly disheartened and quite often, frightened by my lack of "control".This book is for EVERY type of person and for EVERY type of birth -- from a home water birth through to an unplanned caesarean. Whilst the information around what’s happening to your body during labour is informative, the concept of breathing and staying relaxed throughout labour using whatever means necessary (see previously mentioned tealights/podcast/room spray! I don’t know how many times she says to “change the space with electric tea lights” or “listen to a guided meditation or podcast” or how many time she recommends a “quick spritz with an essential oils room spray” but it’s A LOT. Essentially, it’s a form of antenatal education, an approach to birth that is both evidence-based and logical. Yes, it's our body/our labour etc, and the healthcare system has a duty to give you informed consent, but at the same time we have to put trust in the professionals who've spent years and years training for their job, and have years and years of experience.

I also find the various testimonies about birth experiences shared in this book very inspiring because each person birthed their babies in different circumstances and they all had a positive birth experience with the help of hypnobirthing. The author kept to all the key points, explained them and then ensured to summarise them at the end of each chapter to tie everything together. Really good information not just about hypnobirthing but also about how a pregnancy works, how your body and muskle work. People can get as crunchy as they want, myself having packed an essential oil to bring to the hospital, but no amount of woowoo affirmations is going to give a newborn baby the Hepatitis B vaccine. We use Google Analytics to see what pages are most visited, and where in the world visitors are visiting from.I feel like that's just setting expectant mothers up with unrealistic expectations that leave them unprepared for the reality of childbirth. Sto per diventare papà (per la prima volta) e su consiglio di mia moglie mi sono letto Hypnobirthing. Breaking down in tears over a book because it made me feel like I was going to have the worst labour possible when it is meant to make your "birth better", shows a real lack of consideration for all types of labour and mothers-to-be. In generale però il piglio dell’autrice l’ho trovato molto spesso fastidioso (imho) e ripetitivo fino alla nausea.
