About this deal

So to put it short, Heated Rivalry follows Canadian hockey player Shane Holland and Russian player Ilya Rozanov who are two idiots always horny for each other.

They had a deep respect for each other as players and people and it really showed throughout the story. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. They take years to admit their “feelings” because all they did in those years was hook up and leave before someone saw them together. It’s not quite enemies-to-lovers, it’s not a traditional slow burn, it spans almost a decade, and it doesn’t have a definitive happy ending. Even the banter and how much I liked Ilya (and Shane too, I guess) didn’t save the story for me, so even the story itself was irrelevant because where even WAS the story?Overall, I still don't really see the hype around this book and I think that's actually part of problem. Como não bastasse isso, ambos personagens são os melhores jogadores da liga, sendo tachados como inimigos por todos os fãs. It was heartbreaking to see all how much Ilya had to lose to be able to be with Shane but it know it was worth it. It has less hockey than other favorites of mine (Avon Gale’s Scoring Chances series) and much more sex. They have fun and laugh which I find appealing and I was delighted that it continued throughout the story.

Add on to that how little they knew about each other because, again, all they know how to do is hook up. I have no idea how the two started seeing each other differently when they know almost nothing about each other, haven’t had a conversation without it becoming about sex or their rivalry, or weren’t even friends.Shane e soprattutto Ilya sono due personaggi meravigliosi, così veri, con i loro dubbi e i loro battibecchi. Ilya is bisexual and Russian, and Shane is gay and Canadian (with Japanese roots, although him being part Japanese is pretty irrelevant).

I was surprised how much I liked the way that story was structured and the angst was what I like nothing OTT. The reviews and comments posted on this site reflect the opinions of individual posters and do not reflect the views of Cannonball Read. I know many of us care more about characters than plot, and usually, a plot is irrelevant to me in a romance book. I had not cared much for the first book in the series but I saw so many glowing reviews of this one I decided to give this one a try. If I didn’t know book 6 was going to be a sequel for the Shane and Ilya, I would have liked this book even less. What follows next are more time jumps (sometimes one or two months, sometimes it’s the next year) and some “moments” thrown in there for laughs and giggles. I wasn’t expecting to give it another chance until I read Role Model and found myself not only loving Ilya, but smiling at every Shane-Ilya cameo.
