For both Collins and Demie, the project was rooted in the darker corners of the fairy tales that they grew up with. Most of these stories do not make any sense, but Alexa Demie looks great so I can’t say that I’m disappointed because I got exactly what I was expecting when I got this book. Now more than a year later, the fruits of their labor are being released in a lavishly illustrated, 152-page hardbound book, Fairy Tales, out next week from Rizzoli. While Collins was mostly raised in the suburbs of Toronto, her mother fled Hungary in the 1980s, when it was still under Soviet rule.

Created in collaboration with Euphoria star and muse Alexa Demie, Collins has just dropped "Fairy Tales," her latest book in the form of nine erotic short stories based on works by the Brothers Grimm, Hans Christian Anderson, and more. It helped too that there was an instant artistic synergy between the pair from their very first day on set together.

Petra Collins is a multi-talented artist and director whose photography set the stylistic tone for much of the 2010s. The darker European folklorists, from Charles Perrault to Hans Christian Andersen, spun stories with little resemblance to the Disney-sanitized versions we grew up on: The queen in Snow White wished to devour the girl’s lungs and liver, for example, and the evil stepsisters in Cinderella cut off their toes with a knife to fit into the glass slipper. Once upon a time, in the far-off kingdom of Los Angeles in the summer of 2020, photographer Petra Collins and Euphoria star Alexa Demie found love at first sight. The stories by themselves are quite one-dimensional, but completely come to life with the photography. Fairy Tales is a picture book about mystical creatures, accompanied with short stories about each one of them.I absolutely loved the artistic direction, set design, alexa’s modeling, and of course the graphic design. Initially bought for the photos, obviously, so I didnt expect there to be multiple stories, and they honestly exceeded my expectations. As children growing up with these stories, they can often be extremely sexualized, even if it’s surrealistic. Alexa is currently working on her first EP, developing and producing film and TV, and engaged in social impact work focused on equality and representation, especially for the Latinx community and the next generation of youth. Instead of glimpsing each other across a crowded room, they connected as any good millennials with a mutual admiration of each other’s work would: through a DM on Instagram.
