About this deal

Each new discovery leads to a new focus, until the discoveries spiral out of control and the reader is left breathless and stunned. Many SF authors have incredible technical imagination but for some that does not translate into visionary political views. If you approach this book with that in mind, you won’t be disappointed: the worldbuilding is superb and wholly deserving all the praise it has garnered over more than three decades. Axis City had been waging war against aliens inhabiting the Way, and is presently facing the most serious attack, when the aliens threaten to open a doorway into the center of a star, thus flooding the Way with plasma. A gigantic alien construct that shows up in the vicinity of our Earth, the origin or purpose of which is unknown.

She realizes that the asteroid is not from an alien civilization at all, but from Earth itself, 1,300 years in the future. The 21st century was on the brink of nuclear confrontation when the 300 kilometer-long stone flashed out of nothingness and into Earth's orbit. It could be from our future or it could be from some other future, the only thing certain is that there's a library that describes the near total destruction the coming war will bring, and the long nuclear winter that will follow it. And even when the narrative finally gathers momentum and excitement, the many dazzling ideas here are never firmly under control.Things become stranger still as the Americans, Chinese and Soviets realize that The asteroid was created by mankind, but a future mankind, stranger still when they find it is still occupied by our descendants. Non posso dire di più per non rovinare la sorpresa, ma mi piacerebbe tanto avere uno di quei marchingegni per l'apprendimento veloce disponibili in biblioteca. It is really a shame that the writing is so poor, because the concepts introduced here are fantastic. So, for instance, Rama in Arthur Clarke's Rama books is one, the Ringworld in Ringworld by Larry Niven is another, the house in House of Leaves is one, apparently there's a giant black hole known as the Unicron singularity in Transformers: Cybertron so that's another, and it goes on and on.

It moves into an eccentric near-Earth orbit where the rival polities of Earth each try to claim this mysterious object. At the time of the writing of the novel, a continuation of the cold war in space was still a possible option. Instead, the more pertinent question is what does Greg Bear want to say about politics and human nature? My main criticisms are that sometimes I got lost in the scientific or political details and, while I liked the weirdness, sometimes the book got a little too weird to tell what was going on, especially in the last 200 pages.Computers seem able to communicate “subliminally” with humans, but Bear never goes into the nuts and bolts. Re-reading Eon also was a nostalgic experience, helping me connect with my younger self, the self that developed a passion for sci-fi largely because of Eon and others of Greg Bear's novels. The high technology of the Hexamon civilization, with their control over genetic engineering, human augmentation (including post- symbolic communication), the concept of parallel universes, alternate timelines and the manipulation of space-time itself are major themes in the latter half of the novel.

The Clarke tradition is to take an Idea then build a story round it; this can lead to novels that really don't have a good story or even much of a story at all, for example, Niven's Ringworld. If nuclear weapons are never again used, it's because they've either been destroyed or superseded by something more horrible. stains on pages and the side **SHIPPED FROM UK** We believe you will be completely satisfied with our quick and reliable service. Like the early Uplift novels by David Brin Eon seems to be a bridge between old school and the new as far as Science Fiction is concerned.

Still, as an avid sci-fi reader I like reading the odd bits of technobabble as long as they do not overwhelm the book to the point of rendering it unreadable. But with so many different characters, it is hard to invest in any one in particular, especially when none of them emerge as the most palatable protagonist. Juno has been hollowed out along its long axis, subdivided into seven cylindrical chambers, and rotates to provide artificial gravity. Although, I think a reader would not miss anything great (except some of its ideas) if this book is left unread, considering there is a lot more good content out there. Un gruppo eterogeneo di scienziati e militari si immergeranno in un mistero che si estende nello spazio e nel tempo.

A Soviet attack on the Stone coincides with the Death, which triggers a nuclear winter on Earth and isolates survivors from all factions on the Stone. They all have their own goals, and the Stone’s reappearance in Earth’s orbit upended many of their plans for the future. The chambers are terraformed, with the second and third containing cities that have been maintained by automatic systems for centuries. The plot of EON is complicated, both in its science and in the political relationships between characters. Since the Stone appears prior to the recorded date of the Death, and there is no record of the Stone’s appearance in its libraries, the scientists reason that the Stone may come from an alternate future, but it turns out the Death is indeed imminent even with the Stone.
