I am a big fan of healthy eating and while many of these treats are “sometimes” foods, but I also include healthy versions of some treats which you can enjoy anytime. Definitely a book that will have a place on my bookshelf and coffee table but also a practical cookbook as well. The couple next to us were making the most of it and the husband had four sandwich refills – one of the good things about it is that you can have as many lovely sandwiches as you can eat.Spanning sweet and savory classics—like Battenberg Cake, Bakewell Tart, toffee puddings, cream scones, and tea sandwiches—the recipes capture the quintessential delicacies of the time, and the proper way to serve them. I would watch Corrie Street and wondered about the big fuss about ”tea” at the end of the day and I never saw a single scone! The parking was organised with stewards which was very helpful due to the volume of people attending.

The grounds are just awesome although it was a shame the rain came just as we were exiting the house so were unable to explore. What I like in these Downton cookbooks is that there is always a short historical introduction for each recipe. The crusts should always be trimmed off, then the sandwiches cut into the desired shape and neatly stacked.Born from her eponymous award winning blog this book contains 160 unique recipes, all beautifully photographed by the author. The tea story relating to marriage is about how young women’s suitors were tested for “proper breeding” before being allowed to court (proceed to woo her to wed).
