About this deal

The Dadpad® gives dads-to-be the knowledge and practical skills necessary to support themselves and their partner, so that babies get the best possible start in life. Being rolled out as part of the UK’s Maternity Transformation Programme’s Better Birth’s Strategy, the information and signposting you get will be local to your NHS Trust or relevant Health Authority. I was a bit scared when we found out we were having a baby, obviously happy, but a bit scared and in the beginning I was a bit clueless.

Having chosen to invest in including and engaging with dads-to-be, and wanting to encourage new dads to get involved and come forward with questions and issues they have throughout their partner’s pregnancy and beyond, the DadPad App is free to you. The DadPad gives you the knowledge and practical skills necessary to support you and your partner, so that your baby gets the best possible start in life. Crucially, the app also provides dads with guidance on how to support and seek help (when needed) for their partners and themselves as they adjust to their new roles, and cope with the physical and emotional strains that this can place on individuals and relationships.

To complement the original DadPad® set of Cards, the DadPad® has now been developed further as an App to act as an on-the-go supportive guide. Cllr Dave Evans, cabinet member for children and young people said: “As a city council, our aim is to provide the best start in life for all children in the city and the DadPad can help with this. The DadPad was created by listening to what dads, their partners and professionals asked for in relation to preparing for fatherhood, what to expect and how to care for their baby.

Cllr Lorraine Beardmore, cabinet member for culture, leisure and public health said: “I am thrilled that the city council has been able to work with the team at DadPad to launch this fantastic free app in Stoke-on-Trent. The DadPad app is a useful resource before baby arrives and after baby is born, and is designed to be used as a quick, on-the-go reference tool, allowing new dads to enjoy their babies and feel more confident about fatherhood. The child development part is my favourite bit, but there’s things in there, like things about mental health, that I didn’t know about and that I didn’t know you needed to know about. We are delighted to be able to launch this resource for dads and dads-to-be across the Lancashire and South Cumbria area.
