I was given ‘Christmas at the Island Hotel’ last Christmas, and although it’s not remotely seasonally appropriate, I decided to read it over the past few days. In what is probably the most jarring strand of storytelling in this novel is the part about Saif and Lorna.And everyone's spoilt and outspoken 5 year old, Agot is back, not happy about Douglas' existence within the family, and generally demanding all manner of things. I was seriously ready to pack my bags and head to this small Scottish island, but then I remembered how cold it was. I didn’t much like any of the characters, who all seem rather two-dimensional and caricatured (particularly Gaspard), and I found the frequent viewpoint-switching annoying - sometimes several times in just one scene. Although this is book four in Jenny Colgan’s ‘Mure Series,’ it is my first from this talented author.

Jenny Colgan is the author of numerous Sunday Times and New York Times bestselling novels and has won various awards for her writing, including the Melissa Nathan Award for Comedy Romance, the RNA Romantic Novel of the Year Award and the RNA Romantic Comedy Novel of the Year Award.

What I love about her books is the witty writing, the laugh out loud comedy, the heartwarming plots, and the cozy settings.
