I believe I've read the first edition of this book, I was glad to see an updated version being published. I identified strongly with certain characteristics from both archetypes, which I don’t think is surprising or unusual. Many of the adults who take Ritalin for ADHD swear that they wished they had discovered this medication long before because of how it has made their life so much easier. These two brain formations control the sensory input to the brain, the thalamus as a gate to the cortex and the reticular formation as an alarm announcing that there is danger. Hartmann then provides fifteen stories of individuals with ADHD, stories that are very revealing in opening the reader to a greater sensitivity in recognizing ADHD.

As someone who has been confirmed to have a lot of ADHD traits, I found this book fascinating, inspiring and easy to read.A wounded boar, or elephant, or bear, can kill you--and many a Hunter has been killed by his would-be prey.

If you want an easy quick read then go for it but if you are looking for something more substantial then skip it. It is argued that in the hunter-gatherer cultures that preceded farming societies, hunters needed hyperfocus more than gatherers. Providing a supportive ';survival' guide to help fine tune your natural skill set, rather than suppress it, Hartmann shows that each mind--whether hunter, farmer, or somewhere in between--has value and great potential waiting to be tapped. However, there are opinions presented that give me the feeling the author is biased against drug solutions. If you or you know of someone who has ADHD, this book is for you-- it includes an interesting theory about ADHDers being the descendants of the Hunters in our former societies, something about which seems to make sense to me.

A bit repetitive in places but in my experience this approach has to be more productive in supporting people that find themselves struggling. About the time I was diagnosed with ADHD, I read Thom Hartmann’s book Adult ADHD: How to Succeed as a Hunter in a Farmer’s World, which presents the idea that our ADHD ancestors were hunter-gatherers whose high energy and hyperfocus were necessary for survival. Of course that could be true sometimes that teachers try to insist on some medical backup in the classroom, it's up to parents to advocate for their ADHD kids and say no if they don't think that's what the kid needs.If the wild boar vanishes into the brush, and a rabbit appears, the Hunter is off in a new direction.
