About this deal

The benefits of the shed being fully pressure-treated means it is protected against decay, rot, and pest damage for years. The colony will re-orientate to the new entrance and will concentrate their efforts in the 14 x 12 box.

Put the 14x12 box with frames and foundation on top of the national brood (they have the same 46cm square foot print) and then wait for them to move up into the 14x*12. I found (and more importantly so did one of my colonies) the space on a single standard not enough for both the early year population explosion and storing food for over wintering.Like many other newbeeks who started out on standard nationals (and WBC in my case) this year, I'm definitely moving to 14x12 next. You can use those parts on the poly hive, whether that's a wooden brood box, wooden super, or any other wooden item. The pent roof makes the unit blend into the garden while giving you full headroom throughout the complete shed.

I've had to do an "emergency" extract of brood frames in the spring when the bees had packed the broodnest i. Frames for illustration purposes only and are not included, please note these boxes are not supplied with bees.ensure you have enough space for the footprint of the building, as well as room for any overhangs, and space to carry out maintenance work, and for air flow round the sides. We have also reduced the issue of frames being propolised down by incorporating a frame runner, whilst maintaining sufficient top bee space reducing the risk of crushing bees. I wouldn't put the national brood over the 14x12 and QE though as there is a good chance they will then use it as a super and start filling it with nectar, which is ok if you want to use it as a super. If not shifting hives about weight should be too much of an issue - a frame of brood doesnt weigh much. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

The 14 x 12 eke is a simple device which fits on top of a National brood box to provide space for 12″ high frames (see below). Over time we have worked with many other polystyrene boxes, but we were never quite able to find something suitable for us. There may be an additional carriage charge for some heavy and bulky items to Northern Ireland, the Scottish Highlands and islands, Isle of Man and off-shore islands. The technical storage or access is strictly necessary for the legitimate purpose of enabling the use of a specific service explicitly requested by the subscriber or user, or for the sole purpose of carrying out the transmission of a communication over an electronic communications network. Two 14 x 12 frames full of brood is nearly equivalent to three nationals or when I make up splits I take three 14 x 12 frames of brood which gives you a really strong start to your new colony. Our new feeder design also features a removable plug, which can provide access to fondant placed inside the feeder. Sometimes a product they’ve made will be functionally perfect but have a small cosmetic fault and they have been putting these to one side. This will not affect the structural integrity of the product – this is natural and is not covered by a guarantee.

If you are not satisfied with purchase or if you have any other problems with the frames you receive, please hesitate to contact us and we will try our best to rectify the problem as soon as possible. It might take a few days for the bees to get the message that we want the queen to lay in the 14 x 12's but after a week or so there should be eggs and small larvae in the 14 x 12 frames. I inspect the uppermost box for swarming weekly, because they do the queen cells in top most brood box if they do them. The positives of double brood for me are ease of splitting (for whatever reason), rarely having to feed, all the brood parts are identical and usually I can do a comb change once the bees are properly active by removing the bottom box (which is rarely in use at that point) and putting a fresh box of foundation on top, then repeating the process for the next season.I did try them for a couple of years and decided against and prefer the management of 2 Nationals (or WBC's for that matter). This means we can anchor the wood closer to help stop twisting with the shrinking and expanding of the timber cladding. I'm wondering if life might be easier to switch from double brood to 14x12 because of the reduced work when inspecting and I'm not really completely convinced that my colonies really need the volume of a double brood box. Queens are sent in a travelling cage with several attendants, candy and full introduction instructions. However you will probably see that after a few days the queen is just wandering around on the queen excluder and not doing much - and she could be ignored and get cold.
