About this deal

Palate All the notes on the nose swim effortlessly through the palate, the mint developing sweeter notes as it goes on.

Kaikomagatake, Hakushu Whisky is the delicious and gently smoky single malt whisky with herbal notes that is the revelation of Japanese single malts.

The Hakushu Distillery was founded half a century after Yamazaki Keizo Saji inherited his father’s vision in his quest for innovation and constructed this second Suntory distillery in 1973. Peppermint, pine and very pleasant grassy notes as cucumber and refreshing melon round out the nose. The blenders accepted the challenge of working with peat, made possible due to the distillery’s surrounding environment. As if on a rainy day we were walking around on a carpet of moss in a dense pine forest, with ferns and heather with a running stream in the background where we suddenly found a fruit stall with yellow peaches, pears and honeydew melon. Released in Spring 2014, this is one of two Distiller's Reserve single malt whiskies from amazing Suntory. White is a sacred colour in Japan, and the name is derived from alluvial deposits cast up by the rivers which water the district, rushing down from the mountain above in crystal-clear cascades, filtering through granite rocks and filling subterranean caverns and springs.
