About this deal

If Waves or UA stuck their name on these EQ and dynamics plug–ins, people would happily pay hundreds of dollars for them, so Clarett owners will rejoice in getting some seriously high–quality processors for nowt. Those wanting a no-nonsense way to get multiple mics and instruments recorded with studio level clarity will love this interface, while the useful bundled plug-ins sweeten the deal even further. This is clearly a conscious decision on Focusrite’s part: like Apogee, they believe that their Thunderbolt hardware is capable of such low–latency operation as to render the need for a separate cue–mixing utility redundant in most situations. Meanwhile, bare-bones monitor controls work well for the most part, but it’s strange that there’s no button to check the mix in summed mono or A-B monitoring between different speaker sets.

Focusrite haven’t fixed anything that wasn’t broken, so the form factor and selection of I/O on offer in the Clarett interfaces is largely unchanged from their predecessors. But this gain crowding thing is just plain bad design and really drops the ball for an otherwise nice unit. It's possible to get even more impressive results at 96kHz: Focusrite say that a round trip latency of around 1. Thank you for reaching out to Focusrite Technical Support, sorry to hear about the issues you're seeing with your Clarett+ 4Pre. An iOS variant of the app is also available, offering Wi-Fi control when connected to the same network as the host computer.I have a Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 3rd gen, and I don't find an issue with gain unless you are using something that needs a ton of gain like an re-20.

These objects can be mono or stereo, and the interface positively encourages you to hide any that aren’t being used in a particular cue mix.The new Clarett+ is the same but better, both measurably and audibly, and it stands up extremely well against seriously high‑end equipment. The eight Air-enabled mic preamps can reproduce the input impedance, clarity and frequency response curve of Focusrite’s original ISA mic preamp. Focusrite's Clarett low latency USB range features the same specially designed high-performance, low-noise (-128dB EIN) mic pres as its Thunderbolt predecessor. Two powerful, flat-response headphone outputs make mixing easy in any environment, with any headphones. This flexible insert setup lets you add analog gear to your signal chains as needed, but all Clarett+ interfaces also include the Hitmaker Expansion, a studio-grade software bundle that includes powerful mixing plug-ins and virtual instruments.

The features that were a big step up from the cheap tascam I was using is the monitor section (lovely), the preamps, and the adat possibilities. Aside from this, pre-amp controls are very basic – just a gain control for each, with no high-pass filter or polarity switch. I run Linux too and I was thinking about the Clarett+ 8Pre as well, but after this info decided to go with RME Fireface UFX II instead - it doesn't have the software for Linux (yet), but all the features can be controlled on device which is a huge plus that Focusrite products don't have. When activated, the high frequencies are boosted in two stages by +4dB overall to bestow crisp transients, enhance presence‑range clarity and, yes, to add ‘air’ to whatever you’re recording. Eight high-performance Clarett+ preamps - Hear every nuance and capture the clearest and most powerful sounds with preamps that bring masses of headroom, low distortion and ultra-low noise.Dim and Mute switches are also included (again assignable to all outputs if required), but there’s no talkback or a quick way to A-B between different sets of monitors. Focusrite Control also lacks Saffire MixControl’s software Mono and L/R Mute buttons, which I use all the time on my Saffire Pro 40. Unlike the 8Pre, the 8PreX also gives you the ability to switch the hardware input metering to show either bank of digital inputs instead of the analogue ins. This New interface is so clean and good I wish I did this months ago --- everything just tracks better.
