Much of the Netflix series Firefly Lane takes cues from the book version—with a few key differences.Then because of her “behavior,” Dorothy is committed to a treatment center where she undergoes shock therapy or Electroconvulsive therapy.
As the months go by, Marah finds herself in a deep state of depression in California and starts falling down a slippery slope.
And, Marah’s attraction to Paxton – we can see that they are both in really bad places and certainly shouldn’t be together because of that, but if we think back to being a high school girl, it’s easier to understand why she made the choices she did. Tully s mother, Cloud, a child of the Sixties, has lived a world of her own dependent on drugs for most of her adult life. Her hard-drinking decline was triggered by Johnny’s anger at her for keeping Marah and Paxton’s liaison secret. We could totally picture Dorothy because Kristin Hannah gave us such great details to help us picture this hippie woman in 2010.
Who knew that I would fall in love with her stories and have to read all of her contemporary novels! I loved Tully and Kate in Firefly Lane and rejoiced with them when they overcame the circumstances of their very unfortunate childhoods. FLY AWAY is the story of three women who have lost their way and need each other plus a miracle to transform their lives. I have thoroughly enjoyed many other Kristin Hannah books but Firefly Lane remains my favorite and perhaps, my favorite book of all time.Kristin Hannah is the award-winning and bestselling author of more than 20 novels including the international blockbuster, The Nightingale, which was named Goodreads Best Historical fiction novel for 2015 and won the coveted People's Choice award for best fiction in the same year. It was as though Hannah was trying to see how depraved she could make these (initially) beautiful people - how far down she could make them go. Johnny ultimately recognized that he didn’t do it right —he eventually took responsibility for the mistakes he made. She wants to fulfill her promise to Kate—to be there for Kate’s children, but it’s a promise she has no idea how to carry out.
