I don’t know whether I might have felt differently about the books if I’d read them with more time between them, because barrelling through them all in one go means that I’m particularly sensitive to repetition or excessive exposition. The story arc in the Rain Wild Chronicles, however, is a familiar one of the misfits bonding together, finding their inner strength and proving that thanks to their magical powers they can triumph over the forces of evil. Her husband Fred continued to fish Alaskan waters and was home only about 3 months out of every year. This question leads to both political intrigues’ with Leftrin and the Trahorg council, Malta's desperate voyage up river to Kelsingra to find help for her dying child, and the Chalcedian's attempt to attain dragon blood to appease the Duke of Chalced.

That being said, the plot surrounding Hest Finbok and his unwilling journey to Kelsingra is one of Hobb's finest moments. While these young people struggle to understand the fabulous new world they’ve wandered into, danger comes ever closer. I can see why people have difficulties with the Soldier Son – it has hardly any plot at all, a protagonist who has almost no agency, and consists mainly of very long, very detailed descriptions.All the way through this final book I’ve been trying to assess my feelings about the series as a whole. l'uscita del libro in lingua Italiana tardava a venire e quindi, pur non essendo una cima in lingua inglese, ho acquistato il testo originale. Like those Flemish weavers, she works on small, often inconsequential threads in slow deliberate detail, weaving them together gradually bit by bit, and only when you sit back and consider the whole do you realize just how much she's accomplished, or how subtly and gradually the plot, the lives of the characters and the entire world of the Elderlings has progressed.

The world building aspects of this series have been the most entertaining thing, as the characters explore themselves and the new world that they find themselves in. I’m never going to go the length of investing (in time, emotion and money) in all the volumes, but I think I may well finish the first set with Fitz and perhaps go on to the Fool series.

Tintaglia, the great queen dragon, is making her laborious way home after suffering a potentially fatal injury, but finds herself in the sights of a band of Chalcedean dragon-hunters.
