About this deal

Additionally, this lens supports Synchronized IS, which pairs the optical IS system with select Olympus cameras' 5-axis sensor-shift image stabilization to control up to 6. So long as you don’t shoot wide open, and add a smidgeon of contrast in post, honestly in real world terms it doesn’t lack much. duѕt, ѕрlаѕh, frееzе-рrооf аnd Оlуmрuѕ hаvе uѕеd thеіr Z Nаnо Соаtіngѕ thаt ѕіgnіfісаntlу rеduсеѕ flаrе аnd ghоѕtіng. Just being able to hand-hold the lens for a second or two allows me to smooth moving water, or capture the motion blur of smoke, as shown in the images above.

The trickier question is whether within the same M4/3 universe you’d be better served by a few faster primes at similar cost; I think this is a tricky one to answer and depends on how often you shoot in low light or inclement weather situations (the primes are not as well sealed as this 12-200). I never had the intention of putting you on the defensive but to open up your thought process to the information addressing your conclusions. I have to agree with Robin that if you had to have only one lens for the system – and perhaps to cover everything – this would be it. So this is no special abstract use case, but normal life - and not possible on m43 since you'd need a f1 38mm lens for that. About 9 months has passed since I got the Olympus 12-100 f/4 and I’ve used it quite a bit in various settings. As a result, the weight of the lenses I most use has still been reduced to 1800g compared to the previous 2400g. It seems to me that even with the EM5, shutter speed as low as 1s becomes manageable, 2s if with great care, although Olympus has announced previously older models like EM5 do not with the 12-100 IS. But jumping back to bokeh for a moment, I think the biggest issue with this image (other than the subjects, if you're not a fan of bats) is the severe onion-ring bokeh in the highlights behind the flying mammals. At that time, it was Olympus newest lens and was rumored to be sharp and have great image stabilization.

If you want a compact camera that produces great quality photos without the hassle of changing lenses, there are plenty of choices available for every budget. I think you will not recognise how extraordinary this lens can be until you both spend time with it AND depend on it. The bottom-left corner of the below image shows some residual fringing around the leaves; the built-in corrections look to have taken care of much other fringing, but left the purple behind.I must admit that the quality of each lens that I had the opportunity to test or use for a long time is at a very high level and I can easily imagine having each of them as part of my gear. I love working with the lens, which is not showing any signs of wear and tear even after years of using.

The end of the year is almost upon us, and as usual, 2016 saw plenty of new cameras and lenses released, among them several excellent zooms. aperture of f8, since that is the way the images would look alike: A FF shot at 200mm f8 will look the same in DOF and noise as here on m43 with 100 mm f4. Zooming in and out is absolutely smooth without any hicks, and so is the focusing, which allows for very precise focusing. But now that we’re traveling again, I really wanted something to cover that range and didn’t require me to swap lenses. Therefore, there is no trace of chromatic aberration, barrel distortion or corner shading once the RAWs are put through the JPEG engine. Additionally, a lens function button is featured on the side of the barrel for direct settings adjustment, and the lens also features a weather-sealed construction for use in trying environmental conditions. So you can achieve the m43 look with FF, but you can also get lower DOF, lower ISO, wider aperture on FF if you want. The IBIS is less useful for most travel situations since most of the photography happens in good light.
