About this deal

Picked up this Beautiful Gem at my local library last week for my daughter and just realized its up for a Goodreads Choice Award! The background color of the dustcover mirrors the sky with its light blue color, twinkling stars, and clouds floating by. The unit begins by introducing the authors to the children and highlighting the power of bookmaking/storytelling.

The story highlights the importance of cherishing memories of people who have passed, and does this in an uplifting, life-affirming way. I probably shouldn't have judged a book by its cover, but I did, and that led to a bit of disappointment. Then there’s the hardback cover, which is actually one of those fabric hardbacks and is a dark blue that makes me think of the depths of the sea.Yesterday a parent came over to tell me how impressed she was by the book fair and that you did a fabulous job of selling the books to the children first. This book is also about a young boy who lost his grandfather and he needs a way to say goodbye to him. The Washington Post From the creators of the gorgeous bestseller The Night Gardener comes a stunning new picture book about a young boy who sets sail to find a place his grandfather told him about. From the creators of the gorgeous bestseller The Night Gardener comes a stunning new picture book about a young boy who sets sail to find a place his grandfather told him about. That is, I was frustrated until I began to slowly but surely realise and understand that first and foremost Ocean Meets Sky is obviously meant to be a mostly illustrative journey, that it is almost totally picture oriented, with the accompanying text providing in my opinion simply a bit of supplemental verbal guidance.

Oltretutto non in tutte le pagine è leggibile la matita: i colori dei disegni confondono la grafica. Every time he looks out his window it’s a constant reminder of the stories his grandfather told him about the place where the ocean meets the sky. Here's how special this book is: my toddler, who has never experienced the death of a loved one and therefore has no idea about the process of grief and healing, understands what is going on in this book. The artwork here is breathtakingly beautiful, and there are multiple two-page spreads I would happily hang on my wall, if they were available as prints or posters. This book is that perfect combination of imagination, whimsy and a sense of myth grounded in reality.

It also has illustrations of other creatures and items that appear where ocean meets sky that are done up in gold.
