About this deal

Joe and Lily’s initial conversations smack of cut-rate Hannibal and Clarice Starling scenes, with none of Thomas Harris’ nuance of character. I knew before I opened it that the husband was going to leave his family but it didn't happen until nearly half-way through the story. I especially love the character of Lily, who started off an an overweight, plain, insecure woman but then developed into a formidable force in the legal world.

The cast of characters were all realistic portrayals that most readers could relate to, and I thought they were all really well developed. From the majestic cliffs to the rocky footpaths, it all worked together to create the most gorgeous setting for Rosie's story to unravel within. There were some really moving scenes between Rosie and her Dad as they come to know each other better and he showed just how much he loved his daughter. While Francesca spends time with a “special friend,” Carla hangs out with the Macdonalds while Lily pursues Joe’s appeal and wrestles with her childhood demons, which neatly connect to the case. This is a story about being a woman, being a wife, being a mother, being a friend and about all the other roles that women play in their lives. After a troubled childhood, she grew up and won the jackpot: a wonderful husband, two mischievous young daughters, and a neat little house by the sea.

The tension in this scene was definitely an example of the powerful, emotional punch Prowse packs into her writing, and how sharply her deep care of her characters shines through. I thought the ending of the book was perfect and I was really pleased about the way everything came together. Saying all that, that was really my only minor problem with the book and this is still another fantastic piece of work from an author whose stories I only discovered last year but have grown to love and with each new book I can never wait to see what issue she will tackle next. Not only are the foundations of her life, home and family rocked to their very core, but Amanda ensures that readers are privy to the aftermath of this, and the gut-wrenching consequences that follow. Her love of her family shone through repeatedly, and it was clear as day to me that this was a woman entirely happy with her lot in life.A lot of “chick lit” I find rather repetitive and dumbed down, but Amanda Prowse’s writing flows so beautifully that I can’t help but feel drawn into her stories from the very first page. After a brief and not unusual trip to the emergency room, she tells her husband about the negative test. OK her job cleaning caravans isn’t the exciting life of a travel agent she once dreamt of, but her boss is fair, her best mate works there too and she certainly isn’t unhappy in her work. Rosie breaks my heart throughout the book - she feels so desperate and alone, and you feel it for her and the kids. Cleaning caravans may not have been the most glamorous of careers but knowing that she had her little family to go home to once finished was more than enough to her.

It was the sort of place families spent their summers and children chased the waves up and down the shore. There’s no doubt about it, author Amanda Prowse has a very specific talent for creating the most utterly believable characters. Just when you think nothing else can happen to make things worse for her, something happens to make her feel even more alone. Amanda Prowse has constructed a true to life family centred drama that makes for compelling reading.

Her neighboring BFF who consistently backs the OW and whose form of banter with the h is abusive, if you ask me. Amanda Prowse has written yet another beautiful, moving and heartfelt novel with My Husband's Wife, making me once again think, laugh and shed a tear. As the story unfolds the reader feels the sadness, despair and loneliness emanating from Rosie as her support system too falls away. A fantastic and powerful novel of heart-pounding suspense , expertly written to draw the reader in and never let go!

So many twists, when I thought one thing was finally clear the author goes and flips things around again, always keeping things interesting- With none of the main characters inspiring much sympathy, one not being able to put the book down is a testament to the author's skill. It’s about family and friends and never really knowing what goes on in other people’s minds and how fickle and feckless some folk can be.

I also thought Rosie's father was a really interesting and well-developed character, and I enjoyed figuring him out.
