About this deal

As well as all the models in the box, Kill Team: Chalnath also comes with a full 96-page campaign book packed with background lore, Spec Ops narrative campaign rules, and nine scenarios making up the Shadow Operations: Chalnath mission pack.

In addition to Spec Ops rules for each team, Chalnath also gives us rules for a Spec Ops campaign similar to Octarius, with new missions, Killzone/terrain rules, and rules for each of the two teams involved. As a big fan of the Adepta Sororitas and a former T’au Empire collector, I am absolutely psyched to get into the good stuff in this box. Rob has spent most of the last 20 years playing World of Warcraft and writing stories set in made-up worlds. Including drones, there are a massive 16 types of operative you can construct from this kit, while you can bring up to 13 into each mission. We will use anonymous information about the ad you saw and how you engaged with it to measure and improve our advertising campaigns in the future. At the start of your first turn in a game you gain Faith points equal to the number of relics in your sanctum (max 3), a nifty way to start every game waaaay up on points. If you like Kill Team already, and have an interest in one or both of the Kill Teams in this box, then go nuts. This is to be expected, though: Chalnath is an expansion; it’s designed to work in tandem with the original Octarius box. We’ll keep it brief and not too in-depth, though, so we won’t spoil too much of what waits inside should any of you be eager readers. Then you can presumably have your superior whip the shit out of her every game until she atones for her failure.

What constitutes a bulky item shall be at Battlefield Hobbies Limited’s discretion, hazardous items are those deemed so by the Royal Mail. Sure you can only take it 5 times but it gives you pseudo power armour for 5 of your operatives that are likely to be shot at a lot. The first has the user count as having +1 markerlight token when shooting at a target with 1 or more markerlight tokens, the second turns you into a marker drone. The problem is that while there’s plenty of stuff available, it’s all spread out across several releases, and it’s all really expensive.Which is a cool way to have the game model that you kept her skull/finger/rib/whatever around as a creepy object of worship. Even your basic operatives are pretty good with their melee profile, having damage and accuracy that matches other elite combat specialists from general kill teams. The short answer is probably no, well unless you have to have those new minis for your Sisters or Tau.

Destroy Foundations is also an interesting premise, but again while planting demolitions around the board is an interesting concept, as a mission it’s going to do its best narrative work when you can connect it to something else, since otherwise it’s just running around doing actions. These are fully modular and can be combined with Sector Mechanicus, other Sector Imperialis kits or Zone Mortalis, however the missions in this book do want them to be built as per the included missions. You have very useful EMP and Fusion grenades but my favourites are Target Analysis Optic and High-Intensity Markerlight. Completely green players looking for a way into Kill Team are best having a root around for the Octarius box, then trying to swipe a copy of Chalnath in a few weeks time (providing that it’s still available, which it may not be). If Chalnath doesn’t take your liking, or you would just rather wait and see if there’s another expansion box on the way that’s more up your street, it seems likely that we’ll be seeing at the very least two more expansions in the first two quarters of 2022. A bit of a short section this time around as there’s only one bit of kit in the Chalnath box that’s designed to get you up and playing, and that’s the double-sided game board.

However, the untimely arrival of an Adepta Sororiatas force mascaraed the Tau and brought the system back into Imperial hands. It not only breaks down the basic lore of the Sisters of Battle and T’au, but also chats about how they build their Kill Teams and the different sub factions within the armies. All the while rampaging forces like the Orks, Drukhari and Genestealer Cults fight out among the chaos. It is, however, not without its flaws: frustrating scenery builds and an at times confusing and convoluted build guide can leave you scratching your head and wondering what exactly it is you’ve done wrong at points during the build process.
