About this deal

As fabled events came to pass, so those chains faded one by one until the tome opened shortly before the opening of the Great Rift. Guided by the whispered words of their Shadowseers, the masque weaves a bloody path across the stars, seeking out the greatest enemies of the Aeldari. Every moment is a performance, and they perform their legendary masques with puissant skill, flair and passion –- their hallmarks upon the field of battle. In the wake of their disappearance or destruction during the War in Heaven against the Necrons and their C'tan masters, the Old Ones left the care and use of the Webway to their Aeldari creations, who used it for millennia to tie together their great empire.

In this way, whole masques of Harlequins can position themselves in ambush, guaranteeing themselves the element of surprise. Harlequins are undeniably part of the Aeldari species, yet they owe no allegiance to any given Asuryani craftworld or Drukhari kabal, a kindred apart from their fellows. They exist outside of normal Eldar society and hold no allegiance to any Craftworld, Kabal, or other form of authority other than to their own belief in the Eldar deity Cegorach, the Laughing God. These masks come with various Eldar forms of auto-senses and respirators, and, with the exception of the blank Shadowseer masks, are highly ornamented.

All the while, the enemy wrestles with their worst fears reflected back at them in the Harlequins' ever-shifting masks.

Harlequin Players perform with breathtaking skill, whether their stage is a wraithbone and glass amphitheatre bathed in crystalline light, or the firelit hell of the battlefield. This hefty tome brings the galaxy’s most arrogant and deadly race kicking and screaming into the 41st Millennium,* along with a diverse and devastating set of rules to rail against their long-foretold doom. How such an impossibility could come to pass is unclear, for on this matter the final act is infuriatingly vague. It is not enough to simply kill their enemies -- they must be made examples of in the most extravagant manner. The most gruesome of these is the Harlequin's Kiss, which resembles a sharpened tube, tapering to a wicked point, fixed to a warrior's forearm. M32) - In the wake of the Fall, the surviving worshippers of the Laughing God disappear into the Webway without a word of explanation. Glowing lights drift through chambers in which ancient blades and alien skulls rest upon rune-carved plinths. The Masque of the Laughing Circus is a Harlequin masque which discovered that an unnamed Maiden World that had been isolated by a Warp Storm had been invaded by daemons. Yet not all know that, when the Aeldari fled their doom, they took with them the seeds of Cegorach's vengeance.

The Silent Shroud wear the Rune of the Thorn-Strangled Stave -– a mythic weapon used by Kurnous, the hunting god of ancient Aeldari myth, to strike down his prey without making a sound. As the last god falls, the Warlocks emanate a psychic scream that echoes through the minds of the audience. They were ultimately successful in securing an alliance between the two Aeldari factions and the Laughing Circus joined the forces led by the Farseer Illanor and the Succubus Vielle that entered the Webway en route to the affected Maiden World. Swift beyond belief and impossibly agile, Harlequins flow through battle like silk streamers in a hurricane.

Their audience are horrified, not least by the disturbing figure of the galaxy's first Solitaire as she brazenly bestrides the stage. However, there are those masques, such as the Leering Moon, who prefer to field great swarms of Skyweavers, their deployment a ritual acknowledgement of the multifarious nature of the serpent that the Jetbikes are named for. Harlequins are able to move across the galaxy by traversing the Webway, the quasi-dimensional creation of the race known as the Old Ones. While Harlequin masques tend to follow a time-honoured structure, established by the followers of Cegorach in ages past, each also has a distinct identity that reaches from their performances and onto the battlefield.

Troupes of Harlequins sprint across the battlefield, surging from hidden Webway portals to strike without warning. The Masque of the Leaping Stars is known to go to war heralded by the same kaleidoscopic displays of dance and music that characterise all of its performances. Paint any metallic areas on the models, such as weapons or accessories, with metallic paints like Leadbelcher or Iron Warriors. In their arrogance, the ancient Aeldari abandoned their gods, turning their backs upon the morals and codes that guided their civilisation.Their razor-sharp focus drives the masque to pursue their agenda to the extent that no action is too extreme.
