To start things off we are putting up the job file for Dockside Unrest, this job is included in the Respectable Folk expansion set, which is on sale now, but can be played with just the base game. Or load up on items that have key words so that you increase the odds of drawing an Ace in the Hole. When you and the Crew get to work, a Job Briefing will tell you all you need to know; what your Crew needs to accomplish, how they might succeed and how long they have to get it done.

Disgruntled crew can be "hired away" by rivals or may jump ship altogether; disgruntled Captains may sack their entire crew. There is also a greater chance of someone starting to fly to start a job early, putting pressure on everyone else to wrap up their mining and get started with working contracts. It remains structurally intact, but has been dead in the water for weeks until its discovery and it bears the distinct marks of Reaver boarding. The additional supply cards offer new resourceful crew members for hire and specialized gear to help you pull off the big scores.Each player gets their own Firefly class ship and there are also ships for the Reavers and Alliance Cruiser. I love the show, and this game evokes the theme very well even if you don’t pay attention to the names of the jobs or the scenarios flipped on the Misbehave cards. There is some sense of luck involved, both in the flipping of cards while flying through the ‘Verse and in the roll of a dice while completing cards from the Misbehave deck, but many of those can be mitigated with the right combination of crew, ship upgrades, and items. I'm constantly interrupted with family things, so I tend to leave the board set up in the 'game room' so I can go sneak off and play a couple of turns in-between the crazy times. My wife seems to think they don’t need shuffled, especially if we hadn’t played for a while, but I can’t fathom not giving each deck a shuffle or two.Firefly: The Game tasks players with commandeering one of the series’ familiar ships - whether the Serenity, Jetwash or something else - and flying around the galaxy to recruit crew members and complete jobs, dealing with the patrols, Reavers and double-crossing contacts they meet along the way. It is far from feeling like a fiddly game most of the time, but there are a lot of things that go into both the set-up and the gameplay. You can also put the pressure on them to move faster by starting the main objectives even before you might feel ready.

Even within a single story card, the game can play very different based upon how you build your crew and the contracts you pull from the deck early in the game. Firefly Studios has announced that the title is on hold, and several planned release dates have passed without release. The game is incredibly thematic (nominated for our 2013 Thematic game award), easy to learn, and a must play for any fan of the show. Most of the lucrative jobs will require a player to pass a series of skill checks or risk drawing the attention of the Alliance and getting a “wanted” token. Stronghold: Definitive Edition has been announced by Firefly Studios and is being released on November 7th 2023.

It may not be my favorite game in our collection, but it is easily one of the best games in our collection even considering just the base game. Stronghold: Warlords, initially announced by Firefly Studios as Stronghold: Next, was released on 9 March 2021. Based on the Series IV Firefly Chassis, the Esmeralda is the perfect ship for discreetly carrying people who don't want to be found to places they won't be followed.
