About this deal

One potential problem polishing gelcoats is if there are any small air bubbles under the gel these can blow up with heat from polishing and then will sink when it all cools down but by then you have taken the top off so you would get a hollow or even go through it. However, the current label for the light grade of 3M cutting compound wax polish does reference for use on caravans. Which I guess is what fibreglass needs - something to cut through the surface a little way and get back to something which can be polished. That’s why in my post on how not to clean a caravan, I state that T-Cut, a common polishing cutting compound used on cars, should not be used on caravan painted panels. While we’ve covered the importance of polishing your boat, we want to emphasise cleaning and polishing a boat is a week’s worth of arm workout in itself and will be time-consuming, but we promise the result will be worth it!

Keep your boat race ready, and components working properly with our selection of polishes and lubricants. The gel coat on Tiv's is a little soft, hence the majority the the guy's I know who own Tiv's don't use T cut! And I know I’ve said this many times already, but please don’t use this polish on your caravans painted aluminium panels. First job when cleaning a mould was to strip off all the old wax and dust that had coupled with it from the atmosphere, with acetone or cellulose thinners. Yes, many of the products, such as those referenced above, include waxes and resins to protect the surface after polishing.

Farecla, established in 1952, has grown to become a leading manufacturer of surface finishing solutions.

I spent years making grp parts for various vehicles, and our moulds were made of the same stuff as the panels, only stronger, and with extra layers of gelcoat to enable constant polishing.

The result is a tough, durable panel, the problem though is that the resin used to produce the fibreglass panel is not resistant to UV. There has been quite a bit of debate online about whether this is actually a polish or just a ‘glaze’.

Our 3M Perfect-It Gelcoat Light Cutting Polish + Wax is formulated For a truly professional gelcoat finish this product combines polish and protection in one step— its premium chemical and mineral formula quickly removes light to medium oxidation, swirl marks and scratches of P1500 or finer. Multi-step polishing systems using rubbing compounds may be necessary on seriously neglected surfaces, but they are harder and much more time consuming to use by comparison. I favour synthetic sealants and one of my favourites and not just for fibre glass - its great on plastics, paints, glass and it lasts and lasts, water is still beading on my roof after being stood outside over the winter. If you use an "aggressive" cleaner you may have to reapply it every time as it will get stripped off.

TotalShine is a finishing compound that removes scratches and light oxidation and is the 2nd step in our buffing system. Therefore with this post on how to polish a caravan, I’ll discuss which products to use and where on a caravan. Use a clean, dry microfiber cloth or terry cloth, wipe a thin film of the polish onto the surface using a circular motion. You are quite correct in that a gel coat is nearly always far thicker than the lacquer on vehicle paintwork. You use less product even in warmer climates, yet it handles well and does not clog on the buffing pad.
