About this deal

The book has won numerous prizes including being highly commended in the British Medical Association book awards. A great textbook for integrating medical science and clinical medicine: whenever I have studied a topic from Davidson's, I feel as though I have a firm grasp on the science as well as the practice. Other cancelled products: If you want to cancel products that are not damaged or incorrectly supplied, then you must inform us of this within seven working days following the date of receipt in accordance with the Distance Selling Regulations or otherwise as soon as possible.

Clinical Examination overviews - extended and updated to summarise the main elements for each system. Practice Point summaries - detail the practical skills that medical students and junior doctors must acquire.

A new second section on emergency and critical care medicine encompasses poisoning, envenomation and environmental medicine, and introduces a new chapter on acute medicine and critical illness. A very comprehensive and concise book for medical students for studying Medicine and Basic Management of diseases.

Practice Point summaries detail the practical skills that medical students and junior doctors must acquire. I own Harrison's Principles of Internal Medicine, 17th Edition and CURRENT Medical Diagnosis and Treatment 2011 (LANGE CURRENT Series) but I use Davidson's. Presenting Problems sections - provide a clear pathway for the assessment of and approach to the most common complaints in each specialty.

The opening chapter has been completely rewritten with a new focus on the important principles of clinical decision-making or clinical reasoning. Taking its origins from Sir Stanley Davidson’s much-admired lecture notes, Davidson’s has endured because it keeps pace with how modern medicine is taught and provides a wealth of information in an easy-to-read, concise and beautifully illustrated format. Since it was first published this comprehensive text has met the requirements of several generations of medical students preparing for their examinations, while serving as a valuable reference for doctors in training. According to my wife, who is a GP, and for whom this book was purchased, this is a nice, well-organised book that she enjoyed having around when she was a student.

In Old Age, In Pregnancy and In Adolescence boxes - highlight differences in the practice of medicine in these patient groups, and illustrate the interfaces between medical, obstetric and paediatric services. Summary: "More than two million medical students, doctors and other health professionals from around the globe have owned a copy of Davidson's Principles and Practice of Medicine since it was first published.

LI>Part 1 ‘Fundamentals of Medicine’ - provides an account of the principles of genetics, immunology, infectious diseases, population health, oncology and pain management, along with a discussion of the core principles behind clinical decision-making and good prescribing. This is a used book - there is no escaping the fact it has been read by someone else and it will show signs of wear and previous use. Davidson’s global perspective is enhanced by the input of an international team of authors and a distinguished International Advisory Board from 17 countries. These boxes acknowledge the overlap 'transitional' phase and highlight the key points of importance when looking after young people. A practical, problem-based clinical approach is described in the 'Presenting Problems' sections, to complement the detailed descriptions of each disease.

The award citation described the book as "Beautifully constructed with superb clarity of style - Davidson's continues to provide for students, doctors and other health professionals a sound basis for the practice of medicine. Two new chapters on maternal and adolescent/transition medicine complement the one on ageing and disease by addressing problems encountered at key stages of patients' lives. This is not intended to be a full statement of all your rights under the Distance Selling Regulations. New 'Practice Point' summaries detail the practical skills that medical students and junior doctors must acquire, from nasogastric tube insertion to the interpretation of ECGs and arterial blood gases.

Back in the 1980s when KC came out it was better illustrated and had a more up to date feel than Davidsons but there has been a great deal of catch up. An expanded International Advisory Board of 38 members includes new members from several different countries. A new internal text design for this 23 rd Edition provides a simpler and clearer presentation of the various categories of text boxes.
