It is also a foundation towards further study with face-to-face elements, if you are looking to progress towards accredited counsellor status. We welcome applicants without traditional entry qualifications as we base decisions on our own assessment of qualifications, knowledge and previous work experience. It may be possible to transfer these credits from your previous study to Birkbeck or another institution. Would recommend to read if you are starting you level 2 and believe it is the recommended reading for most people undertaking the Level 2/3 anyway so best crack on with it if you can!

In addition to the classroom time, learners should anticipate around 3-4 hours per week of private study time to cover assignments and reading. I really enjoy the way the author has set the book out, in a Q and A style, which enhances learning.

I'd highly recommend this book to anyone starting out in counselling as I think you would find it supports your learning well. My only issue and it's very minor is that the whole book comes in a question/answer, teacher/student form and that can be a bit annoying at point but it is easily ignored. If you are living in the UK on a Student visa, you will not be eligible to enrol as a student on Birkbeck's part-time courses (with the exception of some modules).
