About this deal

He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. Matching the vibes of Lucy’s second album Join the Club, the track perfectly captures not just Lucy’s uniqueness and creativity, but also her authentic personality.

A decade since shooting to fame on the X Factor as the first contestant to perform an original song, Lucy Spraggan is having a busy year. Balance’ is Lucy Spraggan’s seventh studio album produced by Philip MaGee and released through Lucy’s own label Ctrl Records working alongside Simon Cowell’s Syco Publishing company. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. She’s a sense of humour too eulogising the city where she lives in Manchester with its ‘sticky’ dancefloors and ‘it might look grey coming out the station but you’ll see rainbows everywhere. Scheduled to kick off in Glasgow on May 4th, before visiting Newcastle, Manchester, Cardiff, Bristol, Bournemouth, Birmingham, Belfast, Dublin and London, the month long jaunt will come to a close with an extra special show in Sheffield on Friday, May 19th. I think it’s a real privilege actually, to be able to listen to a song from ten years ago and go – look at the difference now.

When I ask her if that also means people feel safe or take the liberty to confide in her, she tells me she’s been used to that since forever. If you’ve seen Lucy perform live, you’ll know that audience participation is a huge part of her sets and it’s easy to see which tracks are going to attract those mass singalongs – two being ‘Not Another Travelling Song’ and the album’s penultimate track, ‘Manchester’. That song absolutely triggers me, because life was so hectic then, and that song itself is connected really deeply to the X Factor for me.In a way, the process of writing “Process” has also rekindled the joy of songwriting, as well as an appreciation of her own history. Surely everyone has songs like that, where they go – Oh I listen to that and I remember the time I was in love with so and so, or I listened to that when I was 15, or listened to that and thought the world was going to end because my girlfriend was going on holiday, you know? Who doesn’t remember Lucy Spraggan, the jolly local lass that was the odd one out on The X Factor in 2012? Of course, Spraggan has learned she needs to “caveat the craziness with calm,” to maintain that hard-fought sense of balance.

Elsewhere there are some jaunty songs which give a sense of what went wrong particularly Cocaine with its list hook: ‘I just wish you loved me more than Cocaine, red wine, late nights and good times, fast cars, pink pills, Mary Jane and cheap thrills. When I heard this song for the first time I was blown away, it is absolutely beautiful and the message is very important, especially right now. Balance well and truly showcases Lucy’s strength and growth and not just in her working life – with lyrics about chasing her own dreams and living her life, the poignant ‘Seasick’ is the perfect example of how far she’s come in her personal life. Now, more than a decade later, those are still two words that immediately spring to mind when chatting with Spraggan about her new album. And I feel deep down that everyone has a song in them, my environment just enabled me to actually create it.Though both boast huge choruses, it’s the latter that shines brightest – a love letter to Manchester, the upbeat track places its focus on the inclusivity and community vibe that the City is renowned for. Whilst Cowell adds: “When I heard this song for the first time I was blown away, it is absolutely beautiful and the message is very important, especially right now.
