About this deal
Wrapping Allo’s dynamic duo is a custom clear acrylic case (black also available) whose form factor will be familiar to Raspberry Pi enthusiasts. If I had to give the Allo DigiOne Signature personality traits, I would think of it as gentle, confident, mature, accurate/calculated, cool and quiet . I have not a/b'ed using the Coax of Gustard vs using Coax of Zen directly (as this would be the only most viable usecase to do a comparison as there is no usb out to DAC via the DDC) , however the Gustard did bring a big improvement when using the coax of Zen to DAC vs i2S via the DDC.
You can use an additional 5V 3A PSU to feed the clean side, although a battery pack is the recommended set up.Hooked up to the Vinnie Rossi LIO and driving a pair of Dynaudio Special Forty loudspeakers, I was able to peg precisely zero audible difference between the two output sockets but do note: 1) I was obligated to use a coaxial adaptor on the DigiOne’s BNC socket; and 2) that doesn’t mean a delta won’t present with another DAC or with better downstream hardware. No personal experience but a lot of folks have upgraded from digione to signature and they are indeed happy with the upgrade. Additionally, DigiOne has a double relocking of the S/PDIF stream (one of them taking care of metastability and the second one taking care of realigning the data). So my conclusion is: the DigiOne is expensive when compared to similar solution, but it’s definitely worth every penny of it. After some time, I realized that the DigiOne Signature Player came with the latest Raspberry Pi 3B+.
DigiOne Signature makes Jack’s voice notably smoother sounding and calmer sounding, but not recessed; and bass control might be a bit better, but I’m unsure. Their Raspberry Pi HAT is as good an example as any of ‘you get what you pay for’ but also a device that puts the boot into cultural preconceptions about a product’s country of origin being a reliable indicator of quality. Another big reason for using a Raspberry Pi is that it is MUCH cheaper than any full-sized computer.Indeed, the DigiOne includes high quality components that will take your music to new horizons with 10 LDO regulators, 12 LPF filters, low noise DC/DC converters, galvanic isolation, low drift NDK oscillators (clocks). If helps only one person to decide if to embark on the streaming journey, either via a Raspberry PI or some other way - then as far as I am concerned it will have been worth my time as well as acting as a small thank you to all those who have helped me get to this point. That cleaner background enables more space around instruments, they’re layered and separated better.
