At the Miyagikyo distillery, two Coffey stills exist for the production of grain whiskies, the product of which was previously destined to end up solely in Nikka's house blends. It was strong at first but with some distilled water it had the sweet taste of some fruit, and bit of vanilla. Predominantly made from corn, whisky distilled in a Coffey still is matured in old casks such as re-filled, remade and re-charred casks originally made from American oak to deliver the sweet and mellow flavors of Coffey distillates.
