Andrea Penrose masterfully weaves the numerous plotlines of Murder at Kensington Palace into a scintillating whole. Andrea Penrose masterfully weaves the numerous plotlines of Murder at Kensington Palace into a scintillating whole. ps I am re-reading CS Harris’s ‘Who Slays the Wicked’ in preparation for the release of her new one (“Who Speaks for the Damned”), which comes out next month. I recently binged the first 5 books of Victoria Thompson’s Gaslight Mystery series, and have you heard of The Richmond Thief by Lisa Boero or Lady Helena Investigates by Jane Steen?

Her youth had passed without distinction, and her middle of life was devoted to the care of a failing mother, and the endeavour to make a small income go as far as possible. This time murder falls at Charlotte’s door after she and Wrexford learn of the brutal murder of Charlotte’s cousin, a wealthy and powerful young man.

The present volume was so satisfying, however, that it made me an insta-fan and regretful not to have discovered it from the get-go. Published internationally in ten languages, she is a three-time RITA Award-finalist and the recipient of numerous writing awards, including two Daphne Du Maurier Awards for Historical Mystery and two Gold Leaf Awards. I don't think they belong in regency era vocabulary, but it was not enough to spoil the flow of the story.

In so many ways, it felt like a simple retread of the exact same plot we’ve seen in the first two books. Excerpts and links may be used, provided that full and clear credit is given to Miss Bates Reads Romance with appropriate and specific direction to the original content.

Wrexford and Sloane must unravel secrets within secrets—including a few that entangle their own hearts—when they reunite to solve a string of shocking murders that have horrified Regency London.

teaching them to draw, muttering motherly threats about “no jam tarts,” which McLennan affectionately bakes for them, hugging them and giving them a world of love and care and knowledge where they had none). Wrexford and Charlotte each uncover various aspects of each of these possible motives, and it was fun seeing how these stories began to interweave, with characters Wrexford interrogated and received certain clues then wandering across Charlotte’s path, and, because of her different perspective, yielding different and new information. J. Quill is safe with the Earl of Wrexford, she's ill prepared for the rippling effects sharing the truth about her background has cast over their relationship. As a respectable young widow she lives quietly but likes to accompany a titled friend to investigate crimes. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

Alongside the darkness the background romance between the two main characters continues to take two steps forward and one step back.
