About this deal

Nine titles in total are dedicated to these great civilisations: Egypt; Greece; Rome; Crete; The Vikings; The Mycenaeans; Incas; The Aztecs and China. The first series set the standard for the books to come with text on one page and bright illustrations on the other. Each beautifully illustrated book features the first new illustrations produced in the original Ladybird style for nearly forty years. The first book, 1a Play with Us, was published in 1964 and the last one, 12c The Open Door to Reading, was published in 1967, so they managed to complete the publication of the series in quite a short space of time. From feeding Nazi spies false information on the attack, to developing new technology like the Mulberry harbours, D-Day changed the course of the War for good.

The collection covers the wide range of subjects Ladybird published, ranging from What to Look for in Spring to the recent Ladybird Experts series. They are popular for producing big box sets as well as individual titles that not only encourage children to pick up the books but also guides them through their journey of becoming confident readers. Ladybird books were translated into many different languages for sale around the world, but the Sunstart series was the only one produced for a specific market. Pretty disappointed with content however, lots of illustrations of gruesome things ie torture, witch sinking, people being burnt at the stake, cadavers, and loads more. In the 1960s, Ladybird produced the Learnabout series of non-fiction (informational) books, some of which were used by adults as well as children.Unclipped dustwrapper (2/6 net) is grubby with pencil markings to back cover, rubbing to edges, chips to corners and small tear to lower right corner of front panel.

I’ve gone beyond the years that most interest me and extended the list to cover the period – from 1940 to the early 1980s. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others.
