About this deal

He was pretty well developed as a character and was the right mix of flawed yet deserving of the girl. I felt like she had more commitment and dedication to their relationship, while Wes was just: there. Also, the fact that the twin-brother chastised the heroine and said she "could've let down his bestie easier" tells you all about the toxicity of this character. Maeve and Wes are from different towns in the same lake, where the sports rivalry between the high schools is intense.

I absolutely had the time of my life reading this because it reminded me of the Wattpad stories I’d read during math class lmao. I don't usually like to read high school romance anymore cause I'm past that stage, but this one surprised me! First, they never really talked about where they stood, he just ignored her, said some mad hurtful shit to her, then told her to leave. What particularly peeved me that for all the intensity that the two opposing towns rivalry was depicted as - it only took a public loud drunken break-up, a heated apology, and a begrudging acceptance from Maeve's friends, to see that their rivalry was indeed petty, and that they truly were better off as friends and finding a balance between the two opposing sides. She’s from the wrong side of the field, and he’s playing the wrong sport, the opposing sport of her own twin.

There is sex but it is more glossed over and fades to grey (not black) and lacks details of a more adult book. Anyway aside from that it was a feel good romance book with the main characters getting their happily ever after.Second, I raise to you this: He deliberately made out with a girl he used to hook up with in front of the heroine in an attempt to HURT her because if he’s in pain (over some bullshit, I remind you), so should she…. In the book, we’re told that both main characters have hard family situations, but we never get to see much of that.

We don't spend loads of time with each group since our main characters are always sneaking away to see each other, but I appreciated the time we had with them.

I feel this could be a sister movie to She's The Man which was adapted from my favourite play Twelfth Night. Maeve is a star football player for her high school and Wes is a quarterback playing for a rival school.

Teens, children, whoever the fuck else this book is marketed to, if your partner intentionally uses your weaknesses to hurt you and refuses to listen to you, maybe rethink the relationship. but a steady 4⭐️ because the romance, their secret dates, the longing, the everything between them was perfect.I could envision the two towns with their lives lead by this age old feud and how Maeve and Wes felt drawn to each other, but conflicted by the rivalry that wouldn’t support them. They confided in each other about the ways of the world, about the issues they faced, and I think if they had been any different in their characters their roles, they never would’ve shared it. I mean, yes, I knew what was going to happen all along, but jeez, I had no right being this entertained while reading about some small town football rivalry. Like one chapter something would happen and then the next chapter would take place a week or two later. Charlotte lives in Rhode Island and when she isn’t writing spends her free time reading, at the beach, or snuggling with her Australian Shepherd.
