About this deal

To have any chance of rescuing her grandfather, Frankie has to get up to speed, quickly, with all the rules and lore of the genre (luckily, Joel is usually on hand to help, in a very annoying way). I mean, I get that she is a teen, but seriously, I know plenty of teens who aren't 24/7 grumps and I can remember that even with everything I wasn't perpetually grump either. From the incredible imagination of Chris Smith – bestselling author and now a major new solo talent – comes an extraordinary accidental adventure for fans of Cressida Cowell and Pixar’s Onward. for me, I think this is a standalone, not sure if the author would revisit the world he created, I hope so.

Whilst trying to find a mobile phone signal, Frankie finds her way into the attic and stumbles across some old maps and books. no, that is not spelt incorrectly) Forcing Frankie to embark on a rescue mission across a magical realm. But Frankie's eyes are opened by a completely different world which leads to a massive adventure where they meet a vast mix of creatures and characters. So I hadn't heard of this author before but a few of the books I have read recently have been quite dark plus just life in general so this was perfect book coming along at the perfect time. Frankie Best Hates Quests is a love letter to the great sci-fi/fantasy epic novels, especially Tolkien. The 103 third parties who use cookies on this service do so for their purposes of displaying and measuring personalized ads, generating audience insights, and developing and improving products. Chris worked for many years as a newsreader and presenter on radio stations including Xfm and BBC Radio 1. She’s stuck at Grandad’s with her annoyingly nerdy brother Joel for a whole week while her parents swan off to the Arctic. As the most iconic and well-known children’s book brand in the UK today, we are always on the lookout for innovative ways to tell the world’s favourite stories and for brilliant new debut talent and brands that connect with today’s young readers, from newborn up to twelve years old. It is an effective device that adds humour and occasional respite from a thrilling pace but, at times, it feels unnecessary and somewhat undermines the story – which is genuinely tense and dramatic.A fun and funny adventure- with a narrator that frequently breaks the fourth wall - that deconstructs and gently mocks a lot of the classic quest fantasy tropes. Chris Smith has wanted to be an author ever since he was eight and won a competition by writing story about a baby dinosaur who loved biscuits. We’ve re-named Puffin Virtually Live so that it’s easier for new teachers to discover it as part of Puffin Schools and to acknowledge that the show now premieres on show day, rather than being streamed live. It's also a really good fantasy in it's own right, with fun, interesting world-building, some original ideas and good characters.

Lots of fun lines but a few too many 'aha' plot moments and too many characters (always in groups of five). Instead they end up at Grandad's house and Granda is a bit unique, they have been kept away for a while and can't really remember why.Even if readers hate quests as much as Frankie does, they will find the page-turning excitement on offer very hard to resist. I couldn’t find the name of the cover artist but I think it might have also been Kenneth Anderson, going off the similarity to the internal illustrations.

She provides a running commentary in the form of snide comments and scornful remarks that remind readers just how silly all this fantasy stuff is. Things get worse for Frankie as soon as they arrive and she realises there’s no phone signal and grandad has no wi-fi! I really loved seeing the progression from all of the characters and I always wanted to know what was going to happen next. However, please be aware that it uses a YouTube player and that you should check your school’s permissions to ensure that YouTube isn’t blocked. Frankie really doesn’t like Parallelia when she first steps into it, but her little brother Joel loves it so much! It is YA (young adult) but don't let anyone tell you these books can only be enjoyed by or purely for youngsters.
