Due to age and corrosion, the exhaust and cat flanges can corrode and become an MOT failure due to leaks. The original clamps on the exhaust system of the M3 E36, M3 E46, Z3 M E36 and Z4 M E85/E86 rust and break over time. Four flanges are used to clamp together and seal the intermediate pipe to the rear muffler / backbox. Our high quality stainless steel flange kit splits around the exhaust pipes, allowing you to replace the flanges without having to remove the exhaust. Upon inspection you will be able to see the flanges are rusted and corroded and often split or starting to.
This repair kit will allow you to grind off the old top hat section and remove the damaged flange and re-weld the new stainless steel top hat section on. At the point where the flanges meet (after the manifold cat), one nut has rusted off (leaving just the bolt) and the other has rusted over so it can't be undone when exhaust replacement is needed. I cut the studs off flush with the flange, used a dremel to cut of the "head" of the stud and the apparent weld bead, and then proceeded to burn up several decent drill bits over a couple of hours of tedious drilling.Exhaust Flange Kits are sold with gasket and bolts to match, ideal for custom fabrications or general repairs on exhausts that require new flanges. Following my recent MOT on my 2003 325i Touring, my mechanic told me that the exhaust mountings need attention.
These modifications may include, but are not limited to: reducing or expanding pipe size, cutting pipe to length, welding, and/or purchasing additional parts. On occasions the exhaust may need removing for upgrade or perhaps for access to carry out sub frame repair, at which point the original flanges will need to be grinded to be removed and a suitable replacement will be required. It also provides a good strong connection between the different parts of an exhaust section, such as the Manifold, turbo joints, down pipes, front sections, exhaust flexi sections, middle exhaust silencers and exhaust rear back boxes.Will usually dispatch within same working day if paid before 13:00 GMT (excludes weekends and holidays). As above, I cut the remaining 2 studs off, drilled with several carbide bits, and used M8 bolts to replace them.
