About this deal

Lord does not analyze the hypotheses in any great depth, other than to acknowledge the competing theories. The anti-French bias is such that whatever they do is wrong: "The French seemed to know a thousand ways to slow down the embarkation. Surrounded by overwhelming Nazi strength, the 338,000 men gathered on the beach were all that stood between Hitler and Western Europe. A gripping adventure in an exciting new series reflecting the authentic, unsung stories of our past!

He went on to graduate from Southbank University in London with a 2:1 in politics and since then he has had various jobs in retail, cinema, and telesales and has kept a keen, almost obsessive, interest in current affairs. When Hitler attacked on 10 May 1940 and the French and Belgian armies collapsed in the face of Germany's swift and brutal advance, the British soldiers found themselves in mortal danger.

Hemmed in by overwhelming Nazi strength, the 338,000 men gathered on the beach were all that stood between Hitler and Western Europe. Perhaps Lord’s best chapter, “Operation Dynamo” deals with how the Admiralty bureaucracy organized the diversified types of ships and crafts that would take part in the rescue of the BEF. General Alan Brook, Major-General Harold Alexander, and Major-General Bernard Montgomery “all cut their teeth at Dunkirk. Churchill was very cognizant of French sensitivities as he was afraid of losing an ally at a time when things were becoming desperate.

There have been numerous books written about the historical event of the Dunkirk evacuation during World War II. The History of War Book of Dunkirk examines the events that led up to it, how the biggest evacuation in military history unfolded, from the plans and decisions made, to the ships, weapons, and key players involved. The German High Command would capture Dunkirk mainly with infantry, thus saving the tanks for the main push.German Panzer Divisions poured through the French countryside trapping the British Expeditionary Force (BEF), two French armies, and all Belgium soldiers, nearly one million men pinned against the sea at Flanders.

There is, however, a realistic depiction of prejudice and discrimination coming from individuals and of systemic racism coming from the British government. The action leading up to the need to evacuate the British Expeditionary Force from Dunkirk isn't made much clearer to the reader than to the baffled soldiers we meet.

Lord is not a cheerleader and doesn’t indulge (for the most part) in the romances of this great escape. Levine skillfully weaves together historical facts, personal accounts, and behind-the-scenes details of the film to create an immersive reading experience.

The British evacuation from the beaches of the small French port town of Dunkirk is one of the iconic moments of military history.Drawing on previously unpublished and rare material, Julian Thompson recreates the action from the misunderstandings between the British and French generals to the experiences of the ordinary soldier. After eight months of Phoney War, however, Hitler suddenly attacked Belgium, Holland, and Luxemburg.
