About this deal

I can very much compare them to my stereo hifi system at home ( exposure 1010 and q acustics concept 20) in terms of detail, sound separation, although these headphones do seem to be analytical, no colour at all which is very good. If so, at 1 volt, this would be 111 dB for the 32 Ω version, 102 dB for the 250 Ω version and 98 dB for the 600 Ω version. The combination of comfortable headband and robust yokes made from aluminium ensure a comfortable fit and excellent stability. Despite this it was effortless to pick them out due to the great separation and clarity of these headphones.

The T50RP for me was a bit aggressive and a little too unforgiving in this regard, while the HD 600 was a bit of the opposite. size=medium] * A headphone's signature (or presentation) influences how much an individual enjoys their music, as much as, if not more than, things like detail and soundstage. Their frame doesn't feel as sturdy as the DT990 PRO, but the ear cups feel better built and have metal enclosures compared to the plastic one of the DT990.The audio is generally transferred via a generic USB cable to a DAC, using WASAPI - event style on JRiver's MC17 ( buffering from the RAM) . It also offers lesser comfort due to round earcups (our ears are oval shaped, not round) and shallow clearance inside earcups making ears to touch the inner surface. I am comparing some of the best headphones in their respective class, which all sound great in their own right. Although the track is also recorded a little narrowly… while the narrow sound of the valley is maintained, the Dt 880 never create a cramp or overly busy sonic presentation; everything is placed just right within the sound stage.

I managed to get decent volumes from the Google Nexus 7 and the iPhone 4, others didn't fair so well so this is far from ideal, just don't completely rule this out. I prefer single sided cables for one reason, it's another easy way to tell which side is which in the dark. V shaped, no actually theres are one of the most balanced cans, what your enjoying is a very balanced sound signiture. In addition the sound stage is perfect, the drums are audibly behind and to the right in the sound stage. It looks identical but the 880's are more "plush" to the touch, even more so than the more expensive HD 600.Though these may not cause any serious issues right away, but definitely not a good trend in long run. size=medium] Now let's talk about the 'reference' AKG 701: If you read my review on the AKG you'll see that I found it enjoyable, but a little to bright and lacking in bass. I should say that this headphone is for professional critical listening and for very good tracks, maybe only flac. It blocks external sounds to creep in and vice versa, but it doesn't sound nearly as nice as the DT880. These headphones have been part of the beyerdynamic portfolio for 20 years and still enjoy exceptional popularity.

Unless you work in an isolated environment, the level of leakage of these headphones may distract those around you. The biggest strength of the DT 880 comes from its ability to represent the individual frequencies in a disunited manner, detached from each other. Still, the headphone remains utterly detailed but much more enjoyable than without any equalization applied.

The manufacturing of the DT 880 is impeccable; I have them since the beginning of 2018 and although it has slid from my desk quite a few times, it looks and functions just like the first day. The crisp and clean detail adds an impressively bold feeling to Electronic music for me and I rarely felt the need for more bass either. However, the DT 770 PRO have a more even sound profile overall, provided you achieve a good fit, and they leak less sound. For that reason, and because they are lighter and more comfortable than the HE-400, the DT880 are my most-used headphones.
