About this deal

We follow two people that find each other despite their gross idiosyncrasies - so at the heart of it, it’s a love story. This is an interesting book to review because I saw an awful lot of people saying it was the “sickest thing I’ve ever read” or “I couldn’t get past page 1! I plan on giving this proper rant review soon, but for now I'll simply say that this is yet another overhyped book written by a man that thinks far too highly of himself and his writing abilities. If anything on this list triggers you or would make you feel uncomfortable at all, whatever you do, please do not read this book.

The whole story kind of feels like it has a veil of thirteen year old goth edge to it, but I’d say that’s intentional because the character narrating is one of these “strange and unusual” types who doesn’t have much in the way of social skills, after all, he doesn’t usually have to woo his ladies.Because all I got was a grown man that thinks and talks like an edgy tumblr teen and scenes so absurdly over-the-top I laughed as I read them. I spread her legs a little wider and mount her, groaning as I slide myself into the cold dryness of her unlubricated vaginal canal. A deep sense of adventure that can only be quenched by chasing anything that can and should be over indulged. I see a lot of people saying Morrison’s writing is brilliant and unique because all of this is intended as satire, and maybe that’s true and I’m the one who’s missing something here, but either way, Dead Inside didn’t work for me, and not for the reasons I expected.

That did feel like it was only there to upset people, and whilst it didn’t offend me I also don’t think the story would suffer in any possible way if it wasn’t in there. Okay, before I go on, I should warn you that this next part is what most people would consider to be gross or appalling. One is a hospital security guard who has taboo sexual desires, the other a maternity doctor who has an appetite for something you won’t find on any restaurant menu. I found myself skimming over some of the more detailed accounts of specific actions, just to get to the parts where the characters were having a dialog about their feelings or the story had progressed past points of discomfort and I wanted to see what was going to happen.

In Chandler Morrison’s Dead Inside it is only later into the book that the namelessness of the lead character, a part-time security guard in a hospital, starts gradually making sense and unveils its true purpose, a meaningful one, which sheds light on every action and every reaction he generates: he doesn’t want to be seen, noticed, to exist even. This book is a wild ride down a dark hole and a head-first dive in a putrid puddle of shit, maggots and fuck knows what else. I’m not saying I needed him to feel guilty or be less of a “monster”, I just needed him to stop devoting his entire life to impressing 14-year-old white boys on reddit. She’s a true romantic at heart who yearns for someone to understand her, with the only problem being MC not really wanting that kind of intimacy, let alone with someone who lives.

obviously VERY dark humour, but if you’re into that, you might have a blast reading this just like i did. He makes the reader aware of how people who are different from the rest of us feel, if indeed they feel anything. the mc caught Helen “in the act” and the whole situation was obviously absurdly funny to me once again. Helen, on the other hand, likes to eat dead babies and as an obstetrician at the maternity ward she is right at the source to her object of desire. If extreme, and I mean EXTREME, sexually explicit horror is something you are interested in then give this one a shot. A man consumed with the darkest licentiousness aimlessly meanders through life fulfilling his deepest perversions.
