I have shade 11, which is a little bit dark for me, however I can make it work by adding some powder over the top. I have heard so many good things about this new L’Oreal Paris cushion foundation from the US that I have been desperate to try it out and get all the shades swatched on the blog. While it’s not like I need another base product ( I have more than 10 already) per se, most of them are too light for me at the moment, now that I have a light tan.

The main difference I have noticed actually shows in the long run – cheaper foundations tend to break out my skin, irritate it and occasionally make it flaky + clog pores. A normal bottle of foundation generally contains about 30 ml of product, but if you lift up the foundation-saturated cushion, there's only a bit of foundation under there. As she is a professional make-up artist with a very high-impact style, I can trust her on formulations, even if our preferences in the colour or placement department aren’t the same. Brands like MAC and YSL are launching cushion foundations, and Yves Rocher has also started offering a one (the Pure Light cushion foundation). This product is described as a dewy glow foundation with SPF29, designed to give a fresh, natural and lightweight finish.It has a thin, runny consistency so it doesn’t feel heavy or clog your skin even when you build it up. I was so excited and surprised after seeing an advert for it, I rushed out to Boots the next day to pick mine up. The foundation's buildable coverage allows you to create a sheer, luminous finish, or build to a medium coverage depending how many layers you wish to apply. I just have to find something that doesn't clash too much with my neck or my face and then blend it down instead of stopping the application along the jawline.

Similar to Korean cushions, it opens up to reveal the puff applicator which sits on a plastic divider that keeps the cushion underneath from drying out and getting dirty. It looks a lot less dense and the pores are bigger which is why more of the liquid foundation tends to sit on the surface of the cushion when you first use it, rather than be absorbed within it. Anyway, the L’Oreal is easy to apply, can be built up to medium coverage, feels comfortable on the skin, looks dewy and natural and stays put. I usually powder over my forehead and nose when I apply in the morning just to take a bit of the shine away and keep the oil at bay for longer but I’ve found regardless of powder, it still gets oily quite quickly which makes me think a lot of the oil comes from the formula itself.

I would also recommend carrying blotting sheets or translucent powder with you because the glow increases as the day progresses. If the item comes direct from a manufacturer, it may be delivered in non-retail packaging, such as a plain or unprinted box or plastic bag. I was surprised by how much I liked this, as I’d never tried a cushion foundation before and didn’t know what to expect. Normally when I get home from work, I find that most foundations will show signs of breakage/seperate on my face but this one didn’t.

Whether you need an everyday cover-up or a slick of red-carpet glamour, L’Oreal is committed to making you feel ‘worth it’ at any time of day, thanks to their range of volumising mascaras, concealers, colour-rich lipsticks and nail polishes. This also gave a beautiful dewy glow to the skin, but I would advise setting this with a tiny bit of powder around the t-zone area, just so you don't look too shiny all over. If you’re in South African this foundation hasn’t made it’s way here but I’ll mail L’Oréal to see if they plan to bring this in. I initially thought I was going to hate the applicator puff that comes with this product but surprisingly I’m enjoying it. I have a chanel (vitalumiere aqua) and YSL foundations and always at least one cheaper one on rotation.

I have normal skin (with an oily t-zone sometimes), and at the 3/4 hour mark, the sides of my nose get greasy, and it looks very oily. Very natural, light-medium coverage – you can still see a bit of redness peaking through without concealer.
