About this deal

She was counting on Edward to forgive her son his Lancaster blood and let him come home from his exile in Brittany. If you have read “The Beaufort Bride” and you want to continue the journey, you need to read “The Beaufort Woman” by Judith Arnopp.

Elysabeth is reluctant to help the Yorkist cause, as she was raised as a Lancastrian, but her husband is loyal to the Yorkists. He died of the plague in captivity at Carmarthen on 3 November 1456, leaving a 13-year-old widow who was pregnant with their child. Indeed, in his biography of Richard III, historian Paul Murray Kendall describes Beaufort as the "Athena of the rebellion". Beaufort is believed to have initiated discussions with Woodville, via mutual physician, Lewis Caerleon, who conveyed secret correspondences between the two women. The black marble tomb is embellished with heraldic bronze insignia, including a yale, her heraldic badge, at her feet.

Hillbom’s creative writing style allows the audience, whether Yorkist or Lancastrian in beliefs, to feel sympathy for Cecily and her life. After the Battle of Bosworth Field and Henry Tudor becomes King Henry VII, the remnants of the Yorkist cause slowly accept the Tudor dynasty. A second barge carries My Lady the King’s Mother, seated in her triumph on a high chair, almost a throne, so that everyone can see Lady Margaret sailing into her own at last.

The Tudor’s story is often told in parts, focusing on individual people like Henry VIII or Elizabeth I.For fans of British royal history, Tallis is a reliable guide, and the timeline and dramatis personae are highly useful. She is no longer My Lady the King’s Mother – the title that gave her so much pride is buried with her son.
