About this deal

She’s an A-Type personality as we all know, and it’s difficult for her to find solace in a different way, a humble way she is not accustomed to. The art style often is not appealing to me, and the writing by Faith Erin Hicks has the tendency to become really stilted and un-natural: flat new side-characters overshadow the main stars, canon characters don't act like they used to, and at points, the dialogue sounds more like an essay tract, where the author unsubtly reveals their own thoughts about the narrative. My manifestations did not lie: this is a sacred place of peace and rest, should you wish for those things. Azula is a very interesting character and the state things are right now makes her even more intriguing and filled with potential so having, at the very least, one full comic about her seems like a huge treat. But after a failed attack on her latest target, Azula finds herself in a mysterious forest temple inhabited by a solitary monk… or is it something more mysterious?

This is the opening line of the latest Azula comic, and by the end I thought this line was going to get turned on its head but something even better happens.

Except for Ningka (who deserted the group before this comic's events), [5] [6] all unmasked Fire Warriors featured in Smoke and Shadow Part Three reappear in Azula in the Spirit Temple. While former princess Azula has countless egregious sins to atone for, the world of Avatar is rife with redemption, like Fire Lord Zuko himself. No One Gets Left Behind: Defied by Azula in the opening act, as she leaves one of her Fire Warriors to be taken captive by the Kyoshi Warriors when their assault goes awry.

Villain Protagonist: Azula, the main protagonist of this story even though she is still seeking to make Zuko see "reason" and continue the Fire Nation's old authoritarian ways. When the spirit, in the form of Zuko, confronts Azula with how her loneliness is really just her own fault and implores her to seek forgiveness instead, she responds with this- and a blast of Lightning for good measure. When the air settles, Azula finds herself in the middle of a forest, her cloak hanging from a branch. The mentally unstable and wildly powerful - but surprisingly sympathetic at times because of her upbringing - firebending prodigy is known for fighting against Team Avatar and her brother at every turn. Azula, in her spiritual journey, blames the way she is due to those around her who did not give her a fighting chance, like her mother, her domineering father, her friends.Left to fend for herself, she eventually makes her way to a remote temple to find shelter for the night, only to be subsequently plagued by visions confronting her with her inner desires, past, and shortcomings. But I enjoyed it the same way I enjoy a somewhat decent fanfic, and even then, if this was fanfic I would be rating it for different reasons. Turns around to look at Ursa and the spirit with anger and determination, making them flinch back in fear. Creepy Good: The Spirit in the temple is a mashup of a Spiders and Creepy Centipedes but genuinely wants to help those who it meets.
