At this point I like to introduce supplemental pieces (perhaps something from the RCM’s Preparatory books) – pieces that seem more professional, serious and fancy. Drawing upon his musical experiences, Morty oversaw the development of instructional publications for accordion, guitar, piano, and drums; performance music for band, orchestra, chorus, and music theory. Each page will introduce a new and different concept and then you will have a simple exercise to play so you can practice that new concept. However, like others have said, not everyone likes those songs - even I barely have 7 or 8 favourites in the whole book. The second book has more diversity in selection and includes a healthy mix of contemporary, Classical and original pieces.

We’ll go through the material this method book covers, talk about its pros and cons, and I’ll let you know if I recommend it for your piano learning journey. If you're able to make it through all three levels of the method you will have an excellent foundation for playing the piano. For example, by the time you reach page 45 of the Adult Lesson book, you’ll be ready to start the Alfred Pop Song Book 1. Certainly the pieces in Book One are "corny" and there's a lot of block chord playing in the left hand, but, the method is a guide for Adults who don't have to stick rigidly to it. But like primary school, we need to lay the groundwork and learn the basics before we get to a grade 1 level.

What was lacking in the Complete book was making a connection between where the note is on the music and where the note is on the piano! Before starting this book, I'd played guitar using tab, but could not play piano or read sheet music. I want to briefly mention that there’s a third book in the Adult series, but I don’t have it so I can’t speak to its content. If you are using other repertoire or teaching material for beginners, this book won't be compatible with most of them as a lot of methods teach starting with both thumbs on middle C and the fingers moving outwards from there.

I just came across the Faber site today when I was looking for info on the technique that my teacher is trying to get me to use. The only thing I would add are the major, minor and other scales in colourful diagrams to make learning easier.
