Century will publish an incisive and candid book – How (Not) To Be Strong – from broadcaster and former footballing star Alex in September 2022. I love how reflective she is, she has clarity on how her upbringing and different events shaped her and I aspire to be self-aware throughout my life like that.Against all odds, former women’s football star and current star TV presenter Alex Scott has so far managed to keep the lid on her private life as tight as the captain’s armband she once wore for Arsenal, putting her in the unique position of being able to tell her remarkable story, for the first time, on her own terms. But thanks to a ‘push-through mentality’ the world has only ever seen the ‘strong’ side of Alex Scott.

I was like, 21, when I got with Kel, so it's all through my 20s, and in the book, it shows that repeat pattern of me ending up with… well, my dad obviously, drink, my uncle Mickey was an alcoholic and then I end up with someone with the same addiction, and trying to help them through that process. In her candid memoir How (Not) to Be Strong, she shares the lessons of a lifetime, from finally confronting the legacy of a tumultuous childhood to tarnished truths behind the gleaming football trophies. With raw honesty, Alex tells us how she has overcome the greatest challenges of her life and reminds us that sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is to show your most vulnerable side to the world.

Alex Scott has had an incredible journey from the football cages of East London to a professional football player, pundit and sports presenter broadcasting to millions. It's amazing how Alex Scott has achieved all that she has from one of the Lionesses greatest ever players to a great, versatile broadcaster.

The timeline was a bit all over the place, so slightly confusing at times for me, but overall this is a solid 4 stars. In this book, Alex shares the lessons that have shaped her, from finally confronting the legacy of a tumultuous childhood to tarnished truth behind the gleaming football trophies. The autobiography of Alex Scott MBE, the former full-back who made 140 appearances for the England Women's team during a long and successful career and played most of her club football for Arsenal and for Boston Breakers in the USA.

I love playing (I play twice a week these days, despite my advancing age) and I want more people to be able to experience that joy if they are interested in playing. This is a passion project and I hope readers enjoy it, but importantly can take their own strength from it. It was really interesting to learn more about women’s football in the UK and I loved reading about Strictly as well! The later chapters on guilt and softness hit home for me - but the letter to her Mum was difficult reading for some reason. In How (Not) to Be Strong, Alex shares the lessons that have shaped her, from finally confronting the legacy of a tumultuous childhood to tarnished truth behind the gleaming football trophies. While on The Chris Evans Breakfast Show with cinch, Alex candidly opened up about the hardships she had to revisit for the book, including the abuse her mum suffered and her relationship with former teammate Kelly Smith. There were moments where I felt like I was intruding; Alex shares stories from her childhood, real traumatic, emotive moments, and reveals many things from her adult life she says few people knew before this book.
