There is a lot I already new about Agatha Christie but many gaps were filled with this thorough and entertaining story of her life. Her publishers found her a formidable client, so there was definitely ambition there even if she wouldn't admit to it.

Throughout life, we tend to lose ourselves for varying reasons and have to go find the person we were. Having been a reader of Agatha Christie books for 50 years this book by Lucy Worsley was a must read for me.Someone once said that the greatest character Agatha Christie ever invented was Agatha Christie herself. So why—despite all the evidence to the contrary—did Agatha present herself as a retiring Edwardian lady of leisure? Worsley did a good job portraying Christie's life, she wove characters from Christie's own work into the book; many of which seemed to be inspired by Christie's life. Worsley not only makes you want to reread them all over again, she actually makes you love the talented yet tormented woman who wrote them.

Much like her BBC specials, she takes a casual tone in educating her audience with interjecting perspectives on her subject that the modern readers find relatable whilst learning. He responds (so so perfectly) "Darling, you not only are my favourite size but always will be, expanding or contracting" I immediately thought, Agatha- stop your dithering, how can you not marry this man?She was willing to pretend that she was a regular citizen, not a celebrated author, a ridiculous proposition. Having read her books on Austen and Queen Victoria I knew this would be a well written, interesting, often lighthearted look at the life of an extraordinary woman.
